Yes. Always. LO is nearly 2.5 and I feel like we have been on a steady climb of this kind of behavior worsening... I think it "peaks" around now and hopefully it will get easier soon!? LO has been "spirited" from day one so she is just experiencing the terrible twos even more intensely than other more chill kids.

This isn't exactly that but yesterday my daughter gave attitude to a cashier and it was embarrassing. She's never done that (I don't think.) There were immediate consequences. I hope it doesn't happen again. :/

Yea... Today DS was a total trainwreck with my family. My brother & SIL must think we are awful parents. It was so embarrassing.

@HTownMom: No, you're definitely not alone. I can think of two friends off the top of my head who also feel like this. One friend visibly cringes every time her son goes near another child and runs after him apologising for his every move!

@Cherrybee: @mand4: Glad to know I'm not the only one!

We are definitely the more laid back types at home and let her just kind of do things her way to an extent-which means being around others who are more disciplined makes us looks like slackers with a crazy kid!

@Cherrybee: I had the same experience where I couldn't hang out with a friend because I felt like our kid was just too much for theirs!

Oh. My. Gosh. Yes.

This summer, I was new in town and went to a little play group party with my 2 year old. There were only two other little girls there. My toddler pushed, hit, stole toys, and showed no remorse. She was also about 10 lbs bigger than the other girls and was nomming all their food. When we got in the car to leave, I had to do a wild rodeo ride to get her into the car seat and left bawling my eyes out.

Of course, it goes without saying that normally my perfect little angel displays none of this behavior. :silly:

Oh yes!

I stopped seeing my BFF for a while because her son is Mr Perfect who likes to keep his toys tidy and gets bent out of shape if the play doh colours get mixed. Every time my daughter played with his toys, he would end up crying. My friend works hard at discipline - they do time outs etc - whereas I'm more of a let-it-go type and I felt awful when my daughter would play with wild abandon, making him cry, and I feared my friend would be wondering why I hadn't taught my child more respect or enforced better behaviour.

Oh and on Friday, agh, my daughter behaved so badly while we were out with another friend (who travelled to see us and has little other experience of my child). I was really, really embarrassed but, afterwards, my friend said was so impressed with how Id handled it and how calm I stayed - which was just the most amazing compliment. I guess people don't expect toddlers to behave impeccably......

Do you ever feel that after attending a gathering even with one other parent and their child, that your kid is the craziest, has no manners and is a general strong personality?

I know my DD can share, have good manners, not cause fights or others to cry and in general be super fun and social....but then there are visits with other family or friends and their kids where everything goes wrong and it seems to be my kid is causing all the problems!

Is it just me as a parent expecting too much out of a toddler who is off routine and environment? When is the point that you start adjusting at home to get a better outcome on play dates?

Or is this just typical toddler (2 1/2-3yrs) behavior?
