We have a Boba and I could carry my almost 4 year old (31lbs) on my back all day long. We've used it hiking too. Love it!

We use the BECO Gemini on a daily basis. We recently traveled with it and went on a few hikes. It has front facing capabilities which I believe the ERGO doesn't. I love my carrier and highly recommend it.

@irene: Infantino is horrible! My friend had one and she couldn't use it for more than 15 minutes.

I use the Ergo, and it's so easy to get them on. Once you get used to it, it's a breeze. When i was traveling in Cuba, i carried around LO (she was almost 20 lbs at the time) for 3 hours.

I sometimes see this one mom carry her son in those bulky hiking carriers, and i personally don't like it because she's hunched over the whole time. I can't imagine it being very good for her back!

@irene: that's what I call them, lol.

I've used a framed carrier with my son, but I am not a fan of them, I will be honest. I don't know if it was the particular one we used or not, but it added a lot of strain to my neck, which didn't seem right. I haven't used my Ergo in a long time, my son's over 30 pounds now and he prefers to walk.

@looch: Is that what they're called? haha
Yes, we looked at those at REI - DH thought they were fine, but I thought they are so bulky, and we are not the hiking kind of people who need one on a daily basis. Besides, we are going on an international trip and it will be an extra carry on item on the plane! It just didn't feel very practical. Do you have one of those? Would you recommend it over the Ergo Sports / Performance carriers?

Actually what is the difference between those framed carriers and the normal Ergo carriers?

@irene: I do it all the time by myself. It takes some practice to get her on my back but now that she can kinda hold onto my shoulders its much easier. We practiced at home over a bed.

@Mrs. Jacks: What is the full name of your carrier, and do you know the weight limit for it? I like anything other than the one we have (I think it was made by "Infantino")

Ergo sport is what we have. it is way better than Bjorn for an older child and for longer periods of time. we have both and ergo and a baby bjorn. The baby bjorn is better for smaller babies. Unless you have the new Baby Bjon Comfort carrier which is pretty much the same as the ergo

We are going on an international trip soon and we are planning on doing a quite a bit of hiking carrying a 23 lb toddler. We never really have a good baby carrier (the only one we had was given to us at a baby shower and we didn't like it). We went to REI and checked out some of their baby/toddler carriers but they are so bulky! With a bunch of things we'll be packing I kinda got drawn back from the bulkiness of it. I also hate to buy something that we're only going to use once (but I guess that's inevitable).

Have you been on a big trip before and did you recommend the baby carrier you used? Would you recommend just a Bjorn one, or a real big hiking one? Advice needed!
