We're on a little later schedule then yours, I pick up at 5:30, home at 6:15, dinner by 7:20. She is usually being a holy terror the entire time I'm fixing dinner, and my dh is hardly ever home. Sometimes I just try feeding her bits and pieces of this and that to tie her over. Last night was bad, she wouldn't eat a bite, then couldn't sleep because she was hungry.

I am there with you most days myself! Basically we do what we can. On really bad days we'll offer different suggestions (i.e., do you want to eat outside? do you want this instead of that? do you want to eat on my lap?) and see what he responds to and usually that makes him happy in the end so that he'll calm enough to eat at least something if not most of what is served. Some days there just isn't any dinner ingested and we move on from there. Toddlers!!

The best we can tell, its just a bad combo that she isn't hungry when she gets home (snack at like 4pm at daycare) so she would be better eating at like 6:30-7 but by that point she is really tired.

We had a similar schedule when I was working, and DD just couldn't wait that late for dinner. I ended up feeding her as soon as we got home and cooking dinner for DH and me after she went to bed. She grew out of it around 2 and now she can wait longer for dinner without having a breakdown (although we usually still eat early).

When my DD is having a meltdown it's bc she is super tired. Is it possible to have dinner on the go so she can go straight to bed when you get home?

We have a similar schedule to you for DS. 5:15 pickup, 6:15 dinner, 7:30 bedtime. It is so hard! He is totally acting out during dinner. I think he is already super hungry by the time we get home and by dinner (not even with the rest of us, just by himself) he is falling apart. Have you tried feeding her earlier? I know it's hard.

@rachiecakes: if we can get her to the table she will feed herself. But then it's only the foods she really likes (rice but won't tough veggies or meat). Last night when she actually was in a good mood she ate blue berries but no pizza grilled cheese or broccoli (she never likes broccoli but we keep offering)

We've been having those lately.
Does she like to feed herself? DS throws a fit if I try to feed him. He wants to do everything on his own. I usually give him two spoons and then I sneak in a spoonful as he's playing with the utensils he has. And try as many finger foods as I possibly can.

When my daughter gets home from daycare she is often per stimulated and in need of direct attention (holding her). This carries into our dinner time. DH is great and often will cook while I attend to her but then she's often still a mess at dinner time. This ends with her not eating well or much and when she gets down she just cries and pulls us away from the table. Any suggestions? I don't know if I am handling this right. I pick her up at 5 we are home at 5:15, and dinner usually by 6:15. She doesn't go to bed until 8
