I love this thread! Hoping DH will do an "externship" of sorts with his company next summer and we'll be doing the same thing.

I just came back from Barcelona and saw SO many families! It made me miss LO so much. It is a beautiful city with amazing parks and beaches. They have a great zoo, so I've heard. It seems like the whole city is really family friendly - there were people at all kinds of restaurants, cafes, bars, etc. at all different hours of the day and night with their kids just hanging out and having fun. And getting around with the Metro was really easy and I saw plenty of families doing it.

Though after reading this I really want to go to Copenhagen!

I vote Barcelona. The beach would be great with a toddler yet there is lots of culture too. lots of outdoor dining.

I thought of another one that is usually overlooked, Bordeaux! We went when DS was 16ish months and it was perfect for a weekend trip! And the food! And the wine!

I haven't been with a toddler, but we went pre-kids and I can't rave about Copenhagen enough. @nana87's link is hilarious but also spot on - you should go!
Barcelona would be my second choice, but I fell like it will be much more touristy.

I vote Stockholm. British Airlines has some crazy cheap deals going on right now. The city is definitely pedestrian friendly with large open spaces, even at the center of town. The whole city is surrounded by parks and there's daily ferry rides into the small scattered islands nearby (picturesque and perfect for a family picnic on a rock beside the lake). There's also an amusement parks and museums and public transport is comfortable and reliable.

The best part: the train is connected to the main airport (ARN), so you don't have to leave the building, just take the escalator downstairs.

@nana87: You have a great list, it's really difficult to vote! We've been to Barcelona and Dublin with a preschooler / toddler and both were fantastic, and went to Copenhagen just adults but have that on our list as a great family-friendly city. Berlin and Vienna are amazing but you may want more time there than just a weekend. I vote for Copenhagen, with Barcelona and Dublin a close second/third depending on the feel of the city you're looking for.

Of your choices I've only been to Munich, Barcelona and Dublin. I think both Munich & Barcelona are very family friendly. Barcelona has a beautiful beach! Both have great transportation systems. I don't think Dublin is toddler friendly at all.

We went to Paris, London, and Dublin with our toddler last year and I'd highly recommend all three. Paris was more difficult with transportation since bringing a stroller on the metro was a B and a half but London and Dublin were excellent. I'll talk about Dublin since it's on your list. It's a small city so very easy to navigate. We walked or took the bus everywhere. We went to a lot of pubs with music, which LO loved and he did really well in a lot of the tourist attractions including The Guinness Storehouse and the Old Jameson Distillery. There's a really great playground in St. Stephen's Green where we took him to play when he needed to get some energy out. It's only an hour flight from London so very easy in terms of getting there.

Copenhagen with LOs is great, that would be my first choice! Of your list, Barcelona would be my second choice and then Vienna. There is SO much to do in Barcelona, even with LOs, but it's slightly less convenient transit-wise than Vienna. Vienna is super easy with kids, but there isn't quite as much to do.

For just a quick weekend trip, Copenhagen would be great! They have a really lovely outdoor garden/park place called Tivoli Gardens with restaurants in it, a carousel, live music, etc. When we were there there was both live music as well as some ballet in the park. I think there is also a small aquarium there, if I am remembering correctly.

https://www.tivoli.dk/en/

Plus there is the waterfront. I love Copenhagen!

I love Berlin but I feel like it needs more than a weekend. I want to vote for two cities very close to each other, really easy from London, super charming and fun for kids, and a bit unexpected: Lille and Ghent! Either one would be fun on its own, or you can explore both, they're a short train ride from each other.

I need to go to the UK for a couple weeks this summer for dissertation research, and dh and lo will be tagging along. We are thinking we'll take one fun trip over a weekend that we're there to explore a city where we've never been, and would love recommendations!

The list below is somewhat off the top of our heads/the results of google-searching "toddler friendly Europe," lol. So we're open to other ideas! Only criteria are that it's "easy" with a kiddo (ie, walkable or good public transport, activities that she would like, etc) and a quick flight from London.

We would like to go somewhere we haven't been, and so a few cities are off the table: London, Paris, and Amsterdam. And we'd like to spend more time in Italy during another (future) trip--we've been talking about doing a long Italy trip, possibly with extended family, for years...

I'd love to hear your ideas, either for places you've been or are on your bucket lists!
