My kids aren't that picky, but they get super picky if I let it.

I have found that way fewer snacks and not processed foods and an slightly earlier dinner time that starts with some heathy snacks while they play makes for a nicer meal time.. mostly.

It's all power struggle stuff

I have picky children. I was a picky child so my mother says I deserve it haha. We had Early Intervention help because it looked like it might be a sensory issue. The basic suggestions of offering one thing new at each meal with other familiar items and to keep offering are things you are already doing.

If you want to try and up your game, ask your kid to feed you the unfamiliar food and make it obvious that you love it. Have them sniff or lick it. Offer different utensils (like little tongs) to mix things up.

Something that I found useful was cutting out snacks. We had three meals a day and my child would actually be hungry at all those times. If I made it a point to only pack 'unacceptable' foods when we'd be out and about, he either would wait till we got home or give in and try something new :silly:

Sometimes though, you just have a picky kid who would live off of breakfast cereal if he could. They'll live.

I think you just might have a picky eater on your hands.... My older son was like that. It was a struggle to get him to even try new things, and typically, when he did, he gagged. He very much likes what he likes (he's been eating basically the same breakfast for 2.5 years)... now that he's older he'll try new things and it's a victory when he likes something new, BUT, he is picky... my other son was more willing to try new things and we made sure to put everything we ate in front of him. he never gagged, and is just different from his brother. As he's getting older he's getting pickier, but not like my older son who just wants what he wants!

bring it up to your ped next time... ours had us add in a vitamin to make up for some missing things (like no more milk drinking)

Hi all, I mostly just read along but I would really love any advice re: Toddlers who are fussy eaters!

My girl is 22 months now, did great with a decent variety of solids until about 14 months when the fussiness started, and progressively got worse. We have a list of about a dozen-ish foods she will generally eat now, and that's seriously all. She won't try any different foods at all, won't even touch them (even foods she used to happily eat all the time), and flips out if she doesn't like the look of whats in front of her.

I try not to make it a battle, I always offer a 'new' food with other foods I know she likes, I don't bribe, I don't get angry, I just keep offering. But it's just getting worse, as more and more 'approved' foods are slowly crossed off the list. She's a healthy weight, growing well, and still has one bottle of cows milk before bed (she's an excellent sleeper).

I'm getting so incredibly frustrated every day, is this normal toddler stuff or is it worth chatting to her child-health nurse about it?
