Thanks so much for the responses! We tried giving him a toy this evening and that seemed to help. I will definitely have to try the ignoring it plan and see if that discourages him from continuing to do it.

Yes! My LO did it around the same time...We decided it was for attention. She was trying to get a reaction out of us. We decided to totally ignore it (she did vomit a little once or twice and we just cleaned it up and didn't make a big deal out of it) so she wouldn't think it was funny or enjoy freaking us out. She quit, it was a pretty short phase. So ignoring it worked. That was our lesson in parenting for when she tries to be dramatic for attention (tantrums/head-banging) and we just totally ignore anything like that and redirect her and she eventually gives up on it because she's not causing panic:)

Yup, J went through a phase like this when he was slightly older than your LO. The more I told him to stop, the more he did it. He constantly made himself throw up - and he'd do it anywhere, home, in the car, at my parents, at the store - it was awful. But he eventually stopped. I also had to try not to pay it the attention he was looking for.

DD also definitely did it moreso when I made a big deal out of it. I think it was related to her getting her molars in too. She did it constantly for just a few days and then never again since.

My LO does this sometimes, and I try not to make a big deal out of it, because then I think that he continues to do it for attention. I try to distract him, or move his fingers out of his mouth and give him something else to hold.

So my 14 month old has recently starting gagging himself with his fingers. He started doing it last night after his bath while I got him dressed. I tried to get him to stop, but he thought it was a game. He did it so much that he threw up. I hoped it was an isolated incident. No such luck. He was sticking his fingers down his throat again towards the end of lunch and again thought it was a game when I tried to get him to stop. He tried doing it again shortly before bed. The last time DH and I were able to distract him with books to get him to stop.

Has anyone else had their LO do this? Any suggestions on getting him to stop?
