@BananaPancakes: 6 months! Agh! It's chicken sausage with my LO and it is so disgusting to dig out. I tell him all the time I swear I will feed him anytime he wants so no need to hang on to anything.

@Tanjowen: DS did this with bacon for months. It was so disgusting. He would hold it for hours and we'd have to pry his mouth open and swipe it out. He grew out of it eventually but it was a nasty 6 months or so. :)

@Mrs. Champagne: @iluvboba637: It's good advice I started following today! It's such a change because he was so good about me sticking his meal on his tray and eating well.

@Mrs. Champagne: this is good advice. My son sometimes does the same about stuffing too much then spitting it out. I think it's because they have more in their mouth than they can swallow so they have to spit it out. But if I give him piece by piece he'll chew and swallow it just fine.

My son stuffs as much as he can in. Chews for 5 mins and spits it al out. If I give him one piece at a time he swallows.

Good luck! Kids are so odd. Haha.

@regberadaisy: Glad to hear it's not just my kid! I finally have just started digging it out of his mouth if it's still in there an hour later. He didn't do it as much today, so maybe hope is on the horizon. Holding back on how much I offer is definitely a strategy I am trying too.

Kids are weird.

@Tanjowen: DD1 never did this but my Dad2 totally does this. She's only 8.5m! We would be done with dinner and out of nowhere I'll see she still has food in her mouth!

Not sure what else to do but limit how much is offered at once?

My 17 month old has hit this "fun" stage where I give him his food, he stuffs as much as he can in his mouth and the rest gets tossed on the floor. Then he keeps the mouthful of food for at least 2 hours.

I have tried physically removing it from his mouth (and got bit for that effort, ha), and I'm not sure if this is just a weird phase kids go through and to just ignore it? It seems odd he can go all day with just 3 mouthfuls of food, but he does eat a big breakfast.

Please tell me someone's LO did this too and it went away!
