It would bother me if they were just strapping her in and leaving her there to attend to other things, but if it was just for story time then I wouldn't have a problem with that. My daughter pays best attention to books while she is in her highchair! I don't think they should keep her in it for long periods though, especially at that age where they need to run around and explore.

My son is 16 months and is obsessed with the idea of being in his little sister's baby gear. Unfortunately, he's over the weight limit, but otherwise I wouldn't see a problem with letting him try it out!

I would need more information before making a call on this. DS loves to sit in those chairs and when I pick him up sometimes when they consolidate rooms and he's in the infant room, he'll be chilling in one of those chairs. He also likes buckles so he will sometimes asked to be buckled in. It could be something like that and not that she was forced to sit there. Either way, if it bothers you, I would ask.

@Sapphiresun: I'm with you on being just a little worried that this is a sign she's not getting enough interaction. It's a sensitive subject for me... DS is at a very nice day care and likes it there (it's safe, clean, he eats and sleeps well), but he's an easy kid and I've been wondering for a while if he's getting much less attention than kids who demand it. They never tell me what they do during the day and there's no way to pop in unannounced because you have to go through two locked doors. Do the people at your daughter's day care give you a rundown of what they did that day?

I would ask your husband how LO was reacting to being in the seat... like PPs, my LO likes buckles and wants to be strapped in to ANYTHING (grocery store cart, high chair, etc.). And since we've gotten out her old toys for baby bro, she climbs in to his stuff all the time.

I'd only be concerned if she was upset by it.

This would bother me - a lot. At 14 months, LO hadn't used a swing or bouncer in 7-8 months, and had not even used an exersaucer in 4 months.

@LuLu Mom: Yeah, my 21 month old gets upset when I have to put her baby sister in that chair!! L loooves sitting in it when it's free. She's also going through a phase of being obsessed with buckles, so I would have assumed she made the teacher buckle her in :silly:

As long as she was under the weight limit and happy I would not be upset, as long as she wasn't in there for a long period of time. I'm picturing something like this and my LO loved to sit in it until she was like 18 months old.

ugh - this would bother me. I would ask why she was in there and not sitting with the others. Yes, I know she may not sit still at 14 months but she needs to learn right?

Was she strapped in and happy? Or crying and trying to get out?
I would be ok with it for a short period if she was under the weight limit and happy about sitting there. BUT I would also question why they don't have a toddler appropriate seat (and why they feel the need to restrain her? Like why does she HAVE to sit and listen to story time?).

I totally see your point of view, but I think it's okay as long as it was just for a short period of time, given the age differences the teacher was working with. I wouldn't be happy if she was strapped in for long.

Ugh, I just got the last daycare issue mostly worked out, and here I am again. Hoping to get some opinions from you guys before I speak to the director.

LO attends a smaller centre with about 7 kids and 4 teachers that work varying shifts, so sometimes if there's only 3 kids in there's only one teacher on shift for the whole group. She's 14 months and the youngest by over a year.

So DH picked her up early today and arrived during circle/story time with LO, a 2.5 year old and a 4 year old, so only one teacher was on shift. They were sitting and reading a story, and they had LO in one of those Rock n' Play style baby seats with the five point harness, strapped in. I'm sure she doesn't sit nicely and listen to a story like the bigger kids, and they need to have the teacher's attention too, but I'm kind of bothered by this.

I personally never owned one of these so I have no idea what the height/weight limits are supposed to be, but I'm also a bit concerned as to why they're "restraining" her.
