Our whole family uses various free and clear detergents - currently I have All but we aren't terribly brand loyal. I didn't do a special detergent for baby #2.

We've always used tide free & clear for all of our laundry, so I'll keep using that for baby #2.

BTW - you've probably heard them too, but I've heard a few warnings lately about being extra careful to store the laundry pods out of the reach of LOs. It seems like there have been a lot of ingestions because they look like something yummy, and the detergent inside is extra concentrated so it's more dangerous. There's always something to worry about, right??

We have always used our own homemade Laundry detergent for everyone in the family and will continue to do so. LO 1 clothes gets washed with our delicate now. New baby will probably be washed separately for a while.

we used to use method free & clear--that worked fine. then i tried soap nuts. those did not impress me. now we are using tide free & clear pods--no scent, but cleans well.

Costco unscented free & clear for everyone. Fragrances usually have weird chemicals and I would absolutely use a different detergent with a baby, their skin absorbs so much!

I used free & clear for DS's laundry when he was a baby. Used our usual Kirkland detergent for our clothes. When he was around 1, I started washing his clothes with our detergent. I just wash baby #2's laundry with All free & clear. I also bought some better life detergent that I'm going to try out when the All is gone.

We have sensitive skin and we alternate between Tide Free and Clear (and we throw in the Tide Vivid White pods every now and then for white loads if we find them at a good price), or a homemade soap (washing soda, Borax, and Fels Naptha laundry soap blitzed through the food processor, although I'm told Ivory soap works well for baby laundry too). We've never reacted to either and they wash really well.

I use babyganics for both my LO and us anyway, so I'll probably just use that for the second baby. Though it doesn't have a smell - which is nice, but part of me misses that fresh-out-of-the-laundry smell ;)

So I started out using a special detergent from the local organic store that is on the approved list for cloth diapers - free of additives and dyes and perfumes. I used it for about 18 months. My DH never liked it and said he felt like his clothes weren't as clean but I continued to use it...and I never had an issue with my cloth so I didn't want to risk ruining them with another detergent.

For the past year we went back to our beloved Gain (the little pods are so much more convenient than the powder and liquid detergent). I love the way it makes our clothes smell and stains come out much better than with the expensive detergent.

My LO has sensitive skin but hasn't reacted in any way. I think I'll buy some of the expensive detergent to do wash my cloth diapers but I'm thinking of just continuing to use Gain for the rest of the laundry...including baby #2's laundry.

What are you using? Do I need to use special detergent for the baby's clothes?
