It sounds like post nap is tough for quite a few LOs...I think I need to consciously rest during his nap instead of cleaning and doing other things around the house so at least I can be ready to go into full patience / comfort mode if needed. After I posted yesterday things slowly improved. It's just those first two hours of craziness.

It's finally cooling down a bit here so maybe we will try some fresh air.

Thanks for all the support and sympathy. Hope this is just one of those things he will grow out of soon and in the meantime I'm going to try to not take it so personally when I can't easily fix it....

My LO is 23 months and she can be like this sometimes, mostly in the morning. It feels like every little thing is wrong, until she gets distracted once we are out of the house. If we stayed in the house I'd probably go insane! Maybe the fresh air would help?

Sometimes I just scoop her up and rock her for a bit. She won't always let me but after awhile of whining she often will. Good luck, hope it gets better.

She might be about to come down with something. That's usually the culprit when my LO suddenly goes crazy.

LO has been doing this after her nap as well! Not nonstop crying for hours but she definitely is in a horrible mood. I have chalked it up to her ear infection and I'm praying the antibiotics clear up the drama too!

I always ask my LO if she wants a hug and that usually calms her down. Otherwise I just leave her be because trying to calm her just makes her more mad.

@Mae: my son is 17 months and does the same thing after nap sometimes! So grouchy. Usually bubble guppies for a few mins cures it, but if not a car ride will.

Mine doesn't last that long (but she's also younger at 15 mo). But she is pissed the f off almost every single day when she wakes up from her nap. And it isn't like I wake her or anything so I don't know what the deal is. Usually she is okay after I give her a snack and some milk and let her pet the dog but sometimes even that isn't enough and she just keeps crying. That's when I pack her butt into the car and we go to target. For some reason getting in the car immediately stops the crying so whatever... I roll with it.

My toddler has done this a few time, also after nap. I kind of thought maybe he just wasn't ready to ger out of bed or something? The TV was the only think that snapped him out of it.

@Rockies11: yesssss TV is not even helping here either. It's just more of the same - put on a show and he cries and says no or random things like "man"! (What is man!?)

It helps to know this happens to someone else and I'm not just a complete failure today.

Mine totally does this every once in awhile! She did it for 2 hours post nap twice last week. And she would ask for things like "snack" or "juice" or "elmo" and then I would give them to her and she would throw them on the ground and scream more. Even the tv doesn't work when she gets like that. I assume she does it because she isn't feeling well. I just cuddle her while she sobs. It's really hard to watch!

My son had a great morning playing with his babysitter and took a good nap. Then he woke up from nap sobbing and has been crying and whining and screaming off and on for two hours... Mostly crying so hard that he can barely breathe and speak. It's impossible to make him happy. He told me he is mad and sad.... And other than that he's just wailing about random things like "reddddd carrrr!!!!"

I'm so confused and sad and exhausted and just want to make him happy. Does anyone else's toddler have these all afternoon horrible bad days? Is it ever just random or teething / sick related??? He's had a very slight allergy-runny nose this week...

Aghhhhh.
