My friend is missing her top two canines - she didn't have baby canines or adult canines. She got veneers in high school to hide it, but I really never noticed prior to that.

I don't have any bottom wisdom teeth. Whenever I have a new dentist or hygienist, they ask why I got the bottom ones pulled and not the top. Umm, I never had them!

@Aimed: It's totally possible. The first x-rays with my sister when she was a kid and early teen didn't show the tooth, but it came. There's hope!

We think lo is missing one tooth. He is also 18 months but has his canines and molars already....All but this one tooth. Ped referred him to a pediatric dentist too but we haven't gone yet. I'm hoping there is some kind of spacer they can put in eventually so that his other teeth stay straight.

Myself and my 3 sisters are all missing some teeth! For 3 of us you'd never notice (and in fact my mouth doesn't even have space for the ones I'm missing) - but one of my sisters had to have quite a bit of dental work in her early teens to sort them out, as she was missing quite a few in a row. Her teeth look perfect now and she never seemed too bothered by the experience, but when we were growing up it seemed like a huge proportion of teenage kids had braces - I'm not sure if that's still the case.

@JennyD: Thaks for your reply! Your poor sister - I'm glad that they look decent now.My parents did similarly with my brother - gave him a bottle of milk in bed and sure enough his teeth were bad when he was little - they turned out ok when he got his adult teeth though so not too bad.

The dentist said that it's likely congenital - even though neither of us or our families are missing. I'm still kind of hoping they surprise us all and come in...

Well... sort of.

My mom used to give my sister a bottle of apple juice at bed (BAD! Let this be a cautionary tale to everyone!). Anyhow, her baby teeth (top 4 incisors - ie those main front teeth) rotted out before they came in. So all she ever had were these gross little brown stumps.

These never fell out. Poor girl was in the EIGHTH GRADE before the dentist finally agreed to pull them out. And they did x-rays and didn't see one of the big teeth. So after the stumps got pulled out, 3 of the teeth came in. But she was like 13 and was missing a big front tooth. She was having tons of other orthodontal work done (braces) and eventually they found her last incisor in the top of her mouth (it's really bizzare). So it started to erupt and they managed to hook it to the braces and slowly and painfully drag it down where it belonged (gross).

So now all of her teeth are there and they don't look too bad, but she has tons of trouble with cavities and other dental issues. Plus she still will not smile open-mouthed.

And I'm missing one of my molars. It's just not there. I realize molars are not incisors. But it's not there. Never was.

Good luck! And start saving for dental work.

So I don't know what I expect from this post, except maybe to hear from someone who has had a similar experience.
My LO (18 months) was always slow on the teething front and right now only has 5 teeth. I tried not to worry too much and assumed that they would come in, our ped agreed,
Anyway last week I took him to a pediatric dentist to check everything out and she suspects that he may be missing several teeth, in particular his two bottom teeth :( She wants to wait until he is 2 to do an x ray so as not to expose him yet and even if they do find he has no teeth buds, there isn't anything that they can do at this point.
I know that there isn't anything I can do except pray that they come in, I know that this is far from a tragedy but I am a little sad.
Was anyone ever in a similar situation and the teeth showed up or not? Any advice other than save for the orthodontist bills now!
