My daughter no longer napped at that age. We tried lots of things and finally gave up. She wasn't too cranky and could still function!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: I think he does get overtired because he will really get into dancing and singing, haha
Kind of funny because when I'm overtired I get a ridiculous case of the giggles.

@MamaCate: My very best friend's son was turning one last weekend, she was having his birthday on Saturday. There was also a concert on the Friday before that we both wanted to go to. She lives almost 2 hours away, so we planned that I would stay over with J, her husband and MIL would watch the boys while we went to the show.
Got a text at 10:45 that my son was still awake and crying in the crib. Her husband basically held and rocked him until we got home at 12:30. My son stayed awake UNTIL 2AM! He woke up at 8:30 happy as a clam. But he totally fell asleep at the birthday party (2pm).

This kid doesn't like to sleep. :/

Oh no! Chloe has been boycotting naps recently, and had a rough time going to bed at night too. She had so much energy! I honestly couldn't tell if she was overtired or what!

I instituted quiet time & if she refused to nap, I'd make her play quietly or read a book. I wouldn't normally do this, but I make her have quiet time in our bedroom. There are far less distractions in our room than in hers!

Now I lay her down in her crib, read two books & give her a few toys to play with -- usually a book and her fairy dolls. She plays quietly for a half hour then zonks out.

Good luck!

If he's not crabby, I would just accept it!

eta: I re read and it looks like he isn't skipping the nap all days, which leads me to believe he's not ready to drop it and is possibly overtired?

Oh no. My DD is the same age and we have been having the same problem for about the past 2 months. She will still nap at daycare but has been refusing at home on the weekends. We would try to go in and "help" her sleep and end up with everyone getting madder. So we tried last weekend leaving her in her room in the dark for an hour. One time she napped for 45 minutes after 40 minutes of talking/mild fussing and the other time she just stayed in there chitter chattering for the full hour until we got her out. She kind of falls apart on the days she doesn't nap (and has night wakings more frequently) so I am trying to commit to at least some "quiet time" for both of us during the day.

Good luck!

@scg00387: haha, I've always said surviving on little sleep is my superpower. Apparently I've passed it on!

@Thenetexan: we do the same. He goes in the crib and will just sing, play and talk to himself. If it gets to be close to an hour, we may or may not take him out depending on if he does look sleepy/getting quiet or if he's saying, "maaaama, maaaama? yum yum? hockey? kitty-kitty?" hahaha

My LO is about the same age. He skips days here and there and it drives me crazy. I do think it started when he started a MDO program. I think his mind is just racing. He does not cry, so he gets to stay in his crib for the nap time period. I hope it is just a phase.

I was the same way as a kid, no nap by 2. There's no doubt in my mind that my LO will end up the same way since he's always been early to drop naps. So no advice just sympathy!

DS is almost 23 months. We recently started daycare (three weeks ago), but for about a month he's been going a few days a week without naps. He will wake up at 7/7:30am and be up until 8/8:30pm. No naps.

I'm not much of a sleeper and I know my mom has said I drove her nuts when I was a baby because I didn't want to sleep. But most of my friends have 3 or 4 year olds that still nap!

Anyone else have a toddler that doesn't nap? How do you help them sleep?
He's really, happy, healthy and active. And honestly doesn't even really get crabby at the end of a no nap day. ::::sigh::::
