@Shantuck: @Foodnerd81: One of my boys takes Renzo's too and smartypants kids (because we need methylated vitamin forms) (and a probiotic, but that's another story  ). He's been taking it daily for over a year and has normal readings. We were told to take it because his MCV was low.

@KT326: once I figured out that they prefer grape flavored things to the orange or berry flavor, I haven’t had a problem with medicine either. But my younger one used to literally throw up Ibuprofen when I tried the berry flavor. Glad I finally figured that out.

I got the flinstones today and she took half no problem. That seems a lot easier than dealing with drops (I could never remember those even when they were babies). She doesn’t need to increase her levels that much- the ped said she was just within the normal range but lower than she wants to see at 3 (or maybe she said she was just below that range?- in any case she said to do a multivitamin with iron).

I have to remember the no calcium yes vitamin C. I gave it right after lunch thinking it was better to take it on a full stomach but she had her milk with lunch. Oh well, I don’t think she drank much anyway.

@Sams Mom: we had to force the other ones we tried... this one took a couple days (since he had a negative association due to the taste of the others) but once he realized it tasted pretty good he easily takes it. I've been lucky, both my kids are pretty good at taking any kind of medicine!

Another vote for Flintstones Complete with Iron here! Not a gummie, cheap, widely available. Done.

My 2 year old has low iron and I had a hard time finding ones that didn't have a lot of food dyes, etc. We ended up buying the Renzo's Iron Strong on Amazon and then also doing a separate multi vitamin (Smart Pants toddler gummies) and she happily gobbles everything up. As a tip, make sure that when giving iron that your child doesn't have any Calcium/dairy an hour before or an hour after the vitamin and Calcium blocks iron absorption.

ETA: You will also want to make sure that your child takes iron with Vitamin C (the Renzo ones also have Vitamin C) because Vitamin C increases absorption. I had low iron myself and the no Calcium but with Vit C were the things my doctor told me to do.

@KT326: I had to fight novaferrum into my son when we were misdiagnosed with severe anemia. Maybe he's just stubborn... Like his mom 🤦🏼‍♀️

We use novaferrum liquid iron drops. Our ped recommended them to increase iron. She said multivitamins with iron will only maintain levels, not increase them. My 2 year old loves the drops, they taste so good! I’ve even tried them and can vouch for the taste.

@Foodnerd81: we stick to the vitamin drops by Enfamil. I don't know of any chewable tablet vitamins for kids that have iron and my pedi isn't in favor of gummies since they are more likely to lead to cavities unless you take them right before brushing

Concur with the Flintstones with iron - DD has been taking them since 2 (we split them in 1/2 until she turned 4) and she actually wants to take them and reminds us to give them

Our Ped recommended Flintstones when DDs iron came back low, we had been taking gummies. We switched to the Flintstones (actually Target up and up brand) and have been taking them ever since.

I know Flintstones aren't popular with some... But when my son's iron came back low our pediatrician just told us to give him a Flintstone with iron every other or every third day along with his regular gummy.

That got his iron levels back up, along with reducing milk since Vitamin D blocks iron absorption and increasing Vitamin C intake since it promotes absorption.

My 3 year old’s iron levels were just a little bit low, so her pediatrician wants me give her a multivitamin with iron for a while (plus increase iron rich foods of course).

What kids multivitamin with iron have you liked? She likes gummies, but I understand those are harder to find with iron because of the risk of overdose (fair enough- my kids love gummies of all kinds). The Zarbees ones get terrible reviews for smelling awful. The pediatrician mentioned Whole Foods has some kids gummies with iron but I don’t feel like driving all the way there if I can order on amazon or get it in Walgreens.

Thanks!
