@tonga8: from all I've heard, it seems like some toddlers can take a few months to settle into the 1 month routine and to lengthen their nap. Fingers crossed it happens for both of us soon!

@BabyTsMom: Yeah.. she's been waking up ranges from 6:45-7:15am. To be honest, I have no idea why she is waking up. It might be because of not getting enough naps during the day or separation anxiety. She started waking up after she got sick and we spoiled her by sleeping with her. I know we made the mistake. But for 5 days now, we have not slept with her. She would wake up and we just let her CIO.

@tonga8: what time does she get up in the morning? she may not be able to stay up until 1pm at first... we just transitioned LO about a month ago (he's 15 months), and the latest he can stay up without getting way overtired is 11:45-12. He usually gets up 6:45ish. when he gets up later, i'll put him down for nap later but most of the time he goes down around 11:45-12.
How long are the naps nowadays? If they're less than 1.5 hours, I'd shoot for an early bedtime, as the multiple wake ups are probably because she's overtired? (Did she used to sttn, and just started waking up when you transitioned?)

@Orchid: This is exactly what my 16 month old is doing. She doesn't want to nap at all so we decided to consolidate the naps to one nap at 1:00pm but typically she won't make it to 1pm. She's exhausted by 12:30. She would cry even though she is exhausted and fall asleep still sitting. She is also waking up at night because most likely she didn't nap well during the day. Prior to this she has always been a good night sleeper. She is not teething. This is already a week now.
I was wondering when will she extend her nap? Will her nap be even extended? Any suggestions on how I can extend her nap? Will she sleep better at night?

So my twins took forever to transition to one nap. Starting at around 15 months what we did was put them down for a morning nap at around 9-9:30 but then wake them up after 20-30 minutes, then second nap was at 1-1:30. It really worked for us because one nap wasn't enough but two full naps wasn't happening either. But that morning catnap really helped. I think for a while we did it at 10 and afternoon nap was at 2. The afternoon nap was 1-2.5 hours long. One of my twins is just a shorter napper but I felt like 20 minutes in the morning plus an hour in the afternoon was better and kept him from melting down! Bedtime was 6:30. We did this until they were 22 months old.

@BabyTsMom: thanks. I feel like 11 is really stretching it already! I feel weird about him going to bed much earlier than 6:30; I tried 6pm tonight and it seems to be going well!

@Orchid: We just transitioned recently so I'm not an expert at all. But this is what I do: I just leave him in his crib for minimum 1.5 hours, regardless of if he's sleeping or awake. Sometimes he wakes up and then just stands there, sometimes he fusses, sometimes he falls back asleep.

You mentioned that bedtime is 6:30 but he doesn't sleep well at night- meaning he has multiple wakeups? If so, then I would maybe even put him to bed earlier.....

I would try really hard to stretch him to nap at 11:30, although I know it can be really hard when they're so cranky.

@Orchid: ah ok. yeah I think it's just part of the transition...it was a very long transition for us, I would say maybe 3 months before he could make it til 12, and then another month or two before he could make it to 12:30/1. I would just let him nap at 11 and do early bedtime!

@hilsy85: thanks for responding. I would say it's been about 3 weeks now of having 1 nap. I feel like he needs two, but will only take one. A few morning ago I tried putting him to nap earlier (3 hrs after he woke and He slept for almost 2 hrs (woke at 12 and wouldn't nap again). I think he's overtired by bedtime (even when we put him to sleep at 6:30 and he doesn't sleep well at night).

Did he just transition to 1 nap? How is he when he wakes up from that nap?:

My LO transitioned to 1 nap around 15/16 months, and for a long time, he couldn't make it past 11am and would only nap 1hour 10 min or so. We just did early bedtimes. Eventually he was able to stretch to napping at 12 and then 12:30/1, and it lengthened.

My 17 month old naps for 50 mins to 1 hr each day.

I'm really struggling with naps. LO is really cranky by 11am and it doesn't seem possible to extend it anymore. He only naps for 50 mins to 1hr, but will be rubbing his eyes and showing tired signs a few hours after. He won't take a second nap if I Give him an earlier morning nap.

What do you think the problem might be? What would you do?
