@Silva: we love our toddler clock! We started around 27 months. And my LO watches the same few movies over and over so by this point she knows the story. She also invariably changes into a new outfit during quiet time too!

@hilsy85: I don't really have a strong position at this point, we just haven't felt the need to start yet....but maybe that's where this is headed!

@Silva: oh yeah, I have no shame about it. I literally would go out of my mind if I didn't have a small break during the day. Screen time FTW!

@hilsy85: she has only watched a bit of a movie when she was sick, and she spent the whole time asking me what was going on and to show her that part again.....but if I get pregnant again, screen time might just have to happen so I can rest.

@Silva: We definitely do screen time! He gets an hour, which is when I unwind a little. I also find that he is better about independent play lately.

@MamaCate: I was thinking about trying one of those alarm clocks to help prevent early wake ups too....good idea.
Today she dumped a bunch of her clothes out of her drawers, got naked, and ripped two pull ups trying to put them on. Yay quiet time

@Silva: we held the line and insisted on quiet time beginning around that age and it has continued as we are getting close to a 4yo LO. I need the time to get stuff done too! BShe had to get used to the routine but eventually adjusted. There is some attention needed--remember to stay in your room until your light turns green (we have a toddler clock) but not bad. We also used the "incentive" of screen time. So LO usually watched a movie Sunday after quiet time but would lose it if she could not stay in her room. I usually did dinner prep and laundry during the movie too so it was a win-win!

@hilsy85: I am not actually sure if I can make it through the day without the break! i guess I could do stroller naps- that usually works, I just hate to lose my time around the house to get work done or nap myself. :crying:

We were never successful at quiet time. On no nap days, I just try to do quiet activities at home for a period in the afternoon, and then he gets an early bed time.

We just roll with his not napping. He naps at daycare and on the weekends he either falls asleep in the car, very seldom in the stroller or not at all and then goes to bed an hour to one and a half hours early.

We totally failed at this! My DD naps at daycare fine (peer pressure) but on the weekends refuses. After a few weekends of a power struggle we decided to just roll with it, and now we let her watch an hour long movie or show at nap time instead. Sometimes she actually falls asleep while watching. I know screen time is not the best but she is a crazy active kid and her body needs the rest!

Hold me.

My 2.5 year old has started refusing naps on random days. She still needs the sleep- on days that she doesn't nap she is out like a light an hour early for bed. It's very clearly a power struggle with me. When my husband was home this weekend and put her down, she was asleep in 10 minutes.

How did you make quiet time work? I've been trying but she just stands at the baby gate in her doorway and yells. For 45 minutes so far today. I told her she has an hour. She has books and her baby and stuffed animals in there. I mean, maybe this is just what it's going to be?

Anyone have any luck instituting quiet time in lieu of naps?
