@Rescuemom10: oh man, that's even harder that you have to deal with it by yourself. The sleep deprivation is killer!
I hear you about the bad habits though. Like I said, we have a permanent sleeping bag set up on the floor of his room and often just crash there to help him get back to sleep. So I definitely think we have muddled the issue and I am not sure how much is just him wanting us to sleep in there with him now. We definitely need to teach him to self soothe, but it also seems cruel to leave him there on his own when he is clearly very scared (and sometimes not even really awake).

Oh man! Ive got this going on too with my 3.5 year old. Whom also has never been a good sleeper.
Im starting to think maybe we need to quit watching Paw Patrol
DH has been deployed and I feel bad I have gotten into the habbit of just grabing her when she gets up and bringing her to my room. That way when she wakes again I can comfort her right away and get her back to sleep. Keep us updated for sure @bloved:. I think perhaps I should take mine in too.

@delight: ha! I do wonder about that Paw Patrol. When I talked to my pediatrician about it, he laid the blame on chickaletta ;)

@shellio: thanks. We did wind up going into the pediatrician. i was nervous they were going to be dismissive when I called, but they actually had me immediately come in. The first thing they wanted to do was to make sure he is not in any real pain and this is how he was describing it. When he ascertained that ds seemed physically fine, he said he did not want to dismiss the fears, and that we will monitor for two more weeks. If this continues, he also recommended a pediatric psychologist. I guess we were this goes from here...he actually has slept relatively well (only 2 or so wake ups) and not mentioned the birds for a couple of days so maybe this will resolve on its own.

@delight: @shellio: thanks for the sympathy and support. Hopefully your little ones are doing ok too.

@bloved: No advice but sending hugs. My 2.5 year old has that too, sounds like night terrors. Mine only does it once in a while but it is terrifying (for us), he doesn't really open his eyes and screams and cries so loudly and sometimes it goes on for a while, even with us in there soothing him. Once after a particularly long episode he eventually woke up enough to tell us that monsters and the big bad wolf were chasing him. :crying: The only shows he really watches are Daniel Tiger, a science show, and Wonder Pets - but he's also had nightmares about the wonder pets. Which is a super benign show. I would advise calling your pediatrician. They may have a recommendation for a pediatric psychologist, it sounds odd since he's so young but they are definitely out there and it might be worth looking into.

I don't have much advice but we are going through the same thing and DD is about to turn three. It's only happening occasionally for us but she will randomly wake up screaming and sobbing. When I go in she will tell me about weird things that don't really make sense. I figure it must be a nightmare. I'm not really sure myself how to address it. I usually just give her a quick cuddle and sing a song and she goes back down. She watches paw patrol too....coincidence?

OK I need some expert advice. My son is three years old and has never been a good sleeper. I can count on one hand the number of times he has slept through the night. Most of it we have attributed to his tonsils and adenoids which we got removed. However lately we are thinking he has nightmares. He wakes up crying and screaming, but he doesn't even really open his eyes. This is happening four or five times a night and he is inconsolable. My husband and I have taken to sleeping on his floor almost every night and it is exhausting. Any advice for how he can self soothe?

Also, possibly related, in the last two weeks or so he's been talking about birds being on his back. He is constantly tell me there are birds there and they're pecking at him and hurting him and mad at him. Obviously there's nothing there. He does not say this only a bedtime he will say at random times throughout the day. At this point I'm attributing it to nightmares that he's remembering although I would love advice on that as well.

Full disclosure we do watch television. However he is pretty much limited to Paw patrol and pj masks, as well as some Disney movies. when I think over the things he has watched I had cannot think of anything that had birds in it and he doesn't watch any television that I have not seen.
