@Boogs: @Pumpkin Pie: My DD2 is also 2 and she still gets a wicked diaper rash whenever she eats a lot of acidic foods. She would eat her weight in clementines if I let her, and then would be crying when it's time to change her diaper. I just have to limit her to 2 cuties per day to prevent it.

@Boogs: not worried about an allergy, I know the rash was simply acid burn! We've been clementine free for a couple days and it's gone. Might try one for dessert tomorrow after dinner!

@Boogs: see if you can try to limit them until your LO gets used it and builds a better tolerance. That's what I did and we don't get rashes anymore.

@Boogs: I think the diaper rash is pretty common. My LO used to get them when she had anything acidic like citrus, tomatoes, etc. She's 2 now and she doesn't get those rashes anymore.

We just had terrible clementine poop. Time for a break for sure. Now that the fruit bowl is empty he's not asking for them. The next time I buy some I'll only put a few out at a time.

I'd stop buying them altogether. This is why we don't keep treats on the house on a regular basis. If they're not readily available, they can't be asked for, denied and tantrumed over!

When DD wants more of something she can't have, we will say no, calmly explain why and offer 2 alternatives for her to choose from. If she gets upset I empathize with her, again explain why she can't have it and offer the alternatives. It works like a charm in our house, but I'm also okay with the tantrums. My goal isn't to stop or avoid them, but to help her work through her emotions. Once I viewed them that way, they became way easier to manage.

Also, if she asks for a food she loves, I tell her up front that she can have x amount and after that there's no more until later. As she is eating I'll remind her that once it's gone there's no more.

We had an obsession at that age (not food, ours was bubbles) and after trying everything else I ended up having to go cold turkey with them. Once they were out of sight fur a few days she mostly stopped asking for them, but a year later she still stops in her tracks if she sees anything even ministry related to blowing bubbles.

Maybe can you have 2-3 already peeled in a bowl and that's all she is allowed for the day or something? So hard when they are fruit obsessed but it's having negative affects.

We would basically only put 1-2 out each day. They would sorta just magically appear on the counter at a time when it would be convenient for me to have him have a snack or dessert or something. We even went so far as to give him one slice at a time so that they would last longer than 5 seconds. Once they were gone, we'd put up our hands and say "all done!"

@T.H.O.U.: no, she hands them to me to peel. If I try to make her do it, after starting the peel, she pulls it part way, then throws the whole thing on the ground and screams at me. It's just so pleasant (eye roll). So cold turkey it is.

I'd cut off cold turkey for a while with that gastro reaction. Vitamin c is great for you, but too much citrus and the acid is not so great for you-your tummy or your teeth!

My 16 month old daughter is a cutie clementine addict! She will eat 5 or more at a time! She has started getting terrible diaper rash from all the citrus, and her poop is pure orange bits, nothing else. If we are home she refuses all other food, including favorites like peas, string cheese, crackers and even cookies. She stands in the kitchen in front of where the fruit bowl is on the counter (she can't see it, she knows where it is) and tantrums for cuties. For hours!

Today I've cut her off at 2. And she has been in full tantrum for 30min, clinging to the cabinets and trying to climb up to get more. She is still young, so I can't reason with her.

Any recommendations on how to handle this? Keep feeding her cuties and nevermind the rash and poop issues? Cut her off entirely and suffer toddler wrath, including total food strike? Thanks!
