My DS is only 16 months and I can already tell with 100% certainty that he's spirited.

He seriously has every trait that they list under spirited toddler/kids - sensitive, intense, tantrums, impatient, very active, strong willed. But he's also very smart, funny, outgoing, and curious. Love him more than anything, but he can be exhausting and a handful!

Luckily he's always been a good sleeper, though.

Spirited, no doubt about it. This is the word my mom has used to describe her to all her friends ;) She's a lover but oh boy if she doesn't' get her way watch out and the word "no" is not in her vocabulary, its tough at times but I can't imagine her any other way. She was an easy baby. I always tell DH that this next baby better be a easy going hippy to balance the two out ;)

@BandDmommy: DS has always had a spirited (ie: difficult) temperament. practically since birth. He was an intense, hard to soothe baby and we have had more than one family member tell us that he would be too hard for them to watch, or that we should start spanking him (my FIL). It's so hard because we know it's just his personality/temperament and that there are ways to keep him happy and relatively calm, but other people still don't understand why he doesn't listen right away, or why he becomes physical when he's frustrated, upset, overstimulated, etc.

@bushelandapeck: same here! I think a lot of it might be age as well! :). A lot of the people saying spirited have 2 year olds, while a lot of people saying easy have younger children.

Spirited...and then more spirited. We make a point of getting him out of the house to do something physical every morning and every afternoon...no matter what. There is just no way to keep him happy in a contained space unless he can run around and use up his energy. The rainy days when we aren't able to do as much are by far the hardest. I don't think he tantrums more often than other children though, and he's a super happy kid if you can keep him busy.

Dang, she's all 3. She's generally cheerful and ready for a new day, she says bye to everyone and everything, but takes her time doing what she wants when she wants. Yet she's really sensitive with temperature and the feel of clothing. She's also kind of shy around other kids. She's very strong-willed and active. She doesn't walk, she hops, she's showing signs of good athletic ability (she's great with a ball, for instance), she's definitely getting enrolled in gymnastics as soon as she turns 3.

Is pure insane an option? I'm biased but I feel like Zuma has about 13 personalities. She's hilarious and shy and sassy and a faker and demanding and silly and feisty and naughty all in one. She's constantly trying to get people to look at her and making all sorts of weird faces.

Mine is all 3! Maybe 50% easy, 40% spirited, and 10% shy?
She has the super emotional highs and lows... but she is way more high than low. She can be a bit of a wild child in situations where she is comfortable. But in situations that are new and/or uncomfortable she turns super shy. The shy part is usually only short-lived though, which is why I only gave that one a 10%.

I would say 70% easy and 30% spirited for W. She doesn't tantrum often (knock on wood) and is Very people-focused, but can definitely be very defiant and bossy.

100% easy for M. She is sooooo friendly, so easy to put down, smiles at everyone, plays well by herself, etc.

this is a good one, love personality tests. My 4YO is SHY, the description fits her to a tee...waves after someone leaves, loves to just observe and not actually try it, very sensitive, and just needs time to process things around her.

My 2YO is easy with a small dose of spirited, she greets anyone, is happy go lucky, eats anything and everything, will happily zip down a slide and laugh all the way down while her 4YO big sister is still standing at the top with complete trepidation.

DD is 90% shy and 10% easy. She was an early walker and talker, but she is certainly observant in a lot of situations. She doesn't demand much though and easily entertains herself, especially in large settings with other kids.
ETA: DD actually does worse when there is a lot of transition time. She doesn't mind going from one thing to the other at all.
