We have matching plates/bowls/cups/utensils from Ikea. My daughter loves the colors and gets a kick out of picking out matching or non-matching sets, depending on her mood. They have held up very well, but we don't microwave or dishwash plastic.

We just have assorted plates from Target. A few character plates and some colored plastic ones that are like $1. The throwing phase seemed long at the time, but it actually didn't last long.

We use the cheap divided kiddie plates from the Target dollar spot (they usually have them for every holiday). At first we just dumped his food on his high chair tray, then we moved to literally taping the plate to the tray with clear packing tape or blue painters tape, and then when he realized he couldn't flip the plate over, we alternated days we didn't tape the plate but closely supervised. For the past month we haven't taped his plate and alternate between the Target plates and the non compartmentalized IKEA kids plates depending on the meal and we have only had one plate flipping incident. We notice he only does it or attempts it at the end of the meal so we just sit next to him and ask him if he's done a bunch of times and act like we are taking the plate away. If he's really done he doesn't care but if he isn't he'll yell until you give him the plate back.

We use some plastic plates from Target and bowls too. They are the salad plate size. We did have a problem with him dumping his food when he was done, but we trained him to hand us the plate instead of dumping it.

We use the EZPZ as well! We started using it at restaurants as young as 10 months and still love it. It's so easy to wipe clean that washing is a breeze anyway (we only have one). I do wish they'd had the smaller version when we bought ours though.

We just used some random regular (non-breakable) plates from target. I think he tried to dump the plate a couple times but once he figured out it would be taken away he stopped. If something fell it was usually an accident.

EZPZ plate/mat is awesome! They are dishwasher safe and easy to wipe clean too. You could get by with just one or two. We even take ours out to eat, and it makes it so much easier not having to worry about my toddler tossing plates on the floor. Everywhere I go, people always comment on what a great idea they are.

We have this one: http://www.amazon.com/SugarBooger-Divided-Suction-Plate-Icky/dp/B00746WUEW
Worked really well. Sometimes had to wet the suction to get it on, but then it stuck really good. Around 17 months we realised that LO wouldn't fling her plate and took the suction ring off. Lots of cute designs too.

I found my daughter ate better when everything is on one surface versus divided into compartments.
Once she got past the throwing stage we started using the dessert plate size of our dinnerware. Only really used baby cutlery and dinnerware in the first few months.

It's been a learning curve but she got better about not tossing things. The suction bowls actually made her want to pick them up more, like it was a challenge. So I guess my advice is to get whatever basic plates you like and only put a little bit of food on at a time. C still sometimes prefers to hand me the plate and eat off the tray, which is fine, but over time she has started eating off the plate more and tray less. But I definitely don't give the whole meal to her at once, I put a few pieces on the plate and refill as she goes.

@ShootingStar: She tried to knock the plate off the high chair tray around 12/13 months, but we just told her no every time. Now she sits at the table with a booster and she just pushed her plate away when she is done.

@Smurfette: Do you have any issues with her trying to brush them off the table? I'm worried that with something that doesn't suction cup or have non-skid stuff on the bottom that he'll just stick out his arm and knock it on the floor.

@littlebug: Those look really cute but they're $25 a piece! I was hoping to get 3 or 4 of them so I can use them for breakfast and dinner and not have to be constantly cleaning like I am now. Not sure I want to invest $100 on toddler plates :silly: .
