She's worn them without the lining for just rain. They're definitely heavier than rubber wellies but she hasn't complained. We have the -30 and they're perfect for winter. We have separate rainboots (hunters) because they're too warm for rain. Or just recommend rain boots that you like. Cheap is good but if they can do double duty I don't mind paying a little more. We live in New England so we may have a mild winter with just a few storms, or we may have 100" inches of snow. </p>
