It's a phase!!! I promise. Someone once said toddlers are good for 2 weeks and followed a rough 2 weeks. I found it does go in cycles. Ours started her tantrums around your LO's age too. Then it went off and on...a lot of ons. Around 28 months the tantrums stopped almost altogether.

It's gotten better for us at 21 months.. Still the occasional meltdown over lord knows what... But much better. I just know I've probably just jinxed myself and will have to eat my words tomorrow, haha...

@winniebee: sounds like bathtime at our house...
She just now saw me sit down in "her" chair, came over and tried push me off of it. The best part the baby-sitters daughter taught her to hit herself in the head when we reprimand her, it 's lovely.

@rachiecakes: hahah re sunscreen!!! Last night he wiped out in the tub, went under water, cried, but the second he was over it stood right back up again. Not so smart. I'm just afraid of what is to come bc it's only going to get worse!!!

@winniebee: um, I think our kids are twins. the bath things irritates me to no end, it scares the crap out of me when he slips but I can't get him to bathe without him insisting on standing up. I need to find some non-slip pads or something.
I bought a spray sunscreen and run after him spraying him down outside to get it on him. The lotion was not happening.
Hats, forget it.

@rachiecakes: right now it's diaper changes, changing him, putting him in carseat or stroller, brushing teeth, sunscreen (lotion js sometimes ok), hats, and generally not giving in to whatever he wants at whatever moment. He still likes baths but won't sit down in the bath ever so that's great. Fun times!

Oh yes, we're there. Seems like it began around 18 months, she's 20 months now. I have to straddle/sit on her practically to brush her teeth, it's a fight to wash her hands, do her hair, get dressed, change her diaper, get her to eat. Recently added to that list is waking in the middle of the night to be held/rocked/or sleep in our bed, no interest in milk though.

Here's to hoping it ends quickly for all of us

hugs! I'm going to say yes? W went through this as soon as she turned a year, and it (knock on wood) seems like we've leveled out a little bit. But I can totally sympathize with you because we were there... for 6 loooooong months, we were there. I cried many a night because I didn't know what to do and I was getting so frustrated with her and myself. And, nothing we tried was working - she just had to figure out things in her head, I guess.

We were just persistent with making sure we told her about transitions (ok, we're going to get up, change your diaper, change your clothes and then go get some breakfast... etc). We also learned that there's certain triggers for her, like, she wants to be held when she first gets up, but she doesn't want to be talked to and definitely DON'T sit down with her until she's fully awake and interested in sitting.

FWIW... my alcohol consumption increased during this phase - I had to have at least a glass to unwind each night ;-)

My boy turned 18 months old Monday!

Lately he's been throwing tantrums about everything, EVERYTHING!

He hates getting dressed, he hates changing his diaper, he hates taking a bath, he hates brushing his teeth, he hates holding hands, he hates putting on lotion or sunscreen.

We're successful with eating and sleeping - so at least we've got the big ones under control.

I know he's just showing us that he wants to be more independent and he is learning all these new skills every single day. The throwing himself on the floor, arching his back, screaming/crying thing is getting old though.

Is this just a phase??
