We are at 22 months and not weaned, but we've slowed down a ton lately. Now I don't nurse her in public. If she asks, I just say no, we left that at home. But she mostly doesn't ask. And recently she's mostly stopped asking during the day, which is kind of breaking my heart. She's mostly just . . . stopped asking. And if she asks when I don't want to do it, I just say no, and usually she doesn't mind. She's even stopped asking when she's hurt.

Ok now I'm bumming myself out. I'm not ready for her to wean!

My son self weaned at 22 months. I can't remember exactly when I started don't offer/don't refuse. Starting at around 18 mos. I started nursing only in specific places in our home-- the bed or the Ergo while out. No more drive-bys. I would also talk to him about how he was going to be a big boy one day and not nurse anymore. The daytime nursings were easy to drop because he's a busy guy and didn't want to drop everything to nurse. At night, I started having my husband put him to bed instead of me (around 21 months). Some nights he cried hard for milk and so I gave it to him. Other nights he would sleep without it. Gradually, he just stopped needing it.

We started offering more milk at wake up and bed time. Eventually she got to the point that she wanted the bottle because there was more milk there and got less interested in nursing.

We didn't self-wean (he would still nurse now if I let him) but we did just stop offering towards the end of our weaning.

R turned 13 months today and we just dropped the night feed. For the past couple of weeks she would nurse for a couple minutes but I would initiate it and during the very brief time she would pop off and ask for a book, a toy, dada etc. Hope that helps! Good luck!

If you nursed past a year and let LO self-wean, can you tell me about how it went?

My LO is now almost 20 months, has been nursing morning/evening only since 13 mos, and is showing no sign of stopping. Sessions are short but she is clearly interested.

I don't have a game plan but would like to be done before she is 2, so I am curious about others' experiences. Thanks!
