Ugh, we are going through the same thing right now. LO is 20 months old and the past week has been awful. She's usually a great sleeper - STTN from 730p - 730a - but starting this week, she refuses to go to bed. She will try anything to stay up a little longer (requesting snacks, another story) and bedtime ends up getting pushed back to 830ish. I know she's tired bc she's yawning and rubbing her eyes but as soon as we put her in the crib, she will start crying her little heart out. We considered letting her CIO but IDK... Like @betsyboop: , I feel like it's gonna be so hard this time bc she's so aware of everything :( I end up going in and singing/rocking/reading to her for another hour or so. Tonight it took over two hours to put her down, but finally she fell asleep after 5 minutes of crying. Ugh. This is so hard :( :( I feel so drained and sad :(

We have been going through this the past few nights (LO is almost 17 months). After consulting the sleep training method we used during the 4 month regression, we're going to try CIO tonight. I think allowing LO to CIO is going to be incredibly tough this time around because she seems so much more aware of everything that is going on, and I don't want her to feel like I'm abandoning her

@Mrs. Pen: "@sandy-that could definitely be it... It leaves me at a loss! I hate to make him cry, but he won't fall asleep in my arms or by rocking so I'm not sure what else to do. But that sounds very similar to separation anxiety. He won't co-bed with us either- we've tried! '
I am reviving this because we are going through it with the same type of kiddo- she won't tolerate rocking to sleep or co-sleeping, etc. She has always been a crap sleeper but this is RIDICULOUS. 4-5 times a night crying and trying to ditch her nap.
How did it work out for you?

@enjollah: we are definitely on the tail end of it but still dealing with it a little bit. The worst part (waking up to 4-5x a night, crying/screaming to sleep) is over and took about four weeks. But now an after effect is that he wakes up between 4-5am and requires us to go in there, hold/rock him for a couple minutes before he goes back down, wakes up an hour later and we do the same thing. He also wakes up earlier- around 6:30 now, whereas he used to sleep until 8am. It's been rough! I hope it goes by quickly for you

@Mrs. Pen: @sandy: omg I think my LO is going through this right now.. How long did it last? If I bring my LO into our bed, he gets up and thinks its time to play even though all the lights are off. He rolls around and flails his arms and legs so we've decided that he can't come into our bed anymore. He's currently screaming it out...as I figure out what to do..

@Mrs. Pen: we went through something like this. I think it was a combination of separation anxiety/increased brain activity/increased awareness. My LO has always been a great sleeper but around 18 months she cried a little when we put her to bed...or an hour into bedtime...and random cries in the middle of the night or super early in the morning. Like J she would be immediately calm when we went to calm her down. It was during this time she was going through a major word explosion...putting 2 words together, etc. it lasted a few weeks and we ended up letting her fuss it out and 99% of the time she fell back asleep after 10-15 minutes of fussing. It was also during this time that she kind of reorganized her schedule...naps has been at 12:30...and it got pushed back to 1:30...and night sleep used to be 7:30-7:30 but switched to 8:00-8:00...and she started napping longer. She became super attached to her lovey at this time. Like I said, it was kind of a mess but after a few weeks she's back to sleeping like her old self... I think it's a common phase

Did any of your toddlers go through somewhat-major sleep regressions?

J is 17 months. He has in general been a great sleeper most of his life and has been fully STTN since 11.5 months.

But the past couple weeks, he fights going to sleep so badly we have to go in to soothe and comfort him 5+ times between 8-9pm. Then he has at least one night waking anytime between 12-4am, and then is up between 5-6am crying. Today he was up from 4:30-5:45am and no amount of rocking, soothing, giving his pacifier would get him to go back to sleep until about 6am. Then of course he slept til nearly 9a,m :-P

It's getting pretty tough and I'm not sure how to do things differently than I am... I'm hoping it's just a phase and he will outgrow it.

He cries when he wakes up but is fine the moment we pick him up, I wonder if he might be having bad dreams? But I have no idea. Grasping at straws here.

Anyone else?
