We do this east coast to west coast 1-2 times a year and the best for us has always been to fly out in the morning so that you get to the west coast lunch time and then keep them awake until a normal bedtime on the west coast. It wasn't always a fun first day, but got lo switched pretty quickly. We've done the same traveling to Europe with the same good results. My lo has always been very easy going though and adaptable to changes to sleep

@psw27 depending on when you get into the west coast, let C take a short nap in the afternoon and that should help him stay up. Ideally if you get him to sleep 60-90 minutes at his normal ET bedtime he should be able to stay up until 8pm and wake up at a normal time the next day.

@youboots: @Pumpkin Pie: @gingerbebe: @PawPrints: @lamariniere: Thanks ladies! I am just going to go for it. We will probably keep him up as late as we can the first night and hope he sleeps in a little bit. There really is no worst case scenario since he is usually up at 3 am in Cali anyway!

I've found it usually takes a day per time zone crossed. What works for us is to limit naps to 2 hours, get outside with lots of sunshine if possible, and try to follow the local schedule as quickly as possible for meals and bedtime.

She adjusts immediately when we travel cross-country. I don't know if it's the sun coming up in the morning or what specifically, but she just adjusts. We'll put her to bed at the normal time when we arrive.

Go right to PST by pushing his bedtime as much as possible and hoping he sleeps in the next day. He should be adjusted by day 3. Going back to EST is a breeze - we go from CA to Michigan and it's never an issue. S just goes to bed later like 9-930pm Eastern and wakes up normal at 7-730am the next day. The travel days being long should help the adjustment.

We've traveled from CA to east coast a couple times and we've just kept her on the destination schedule. We've been pretty loose though. If we were out or she didn't seem tired, we just let her stay up with us. I found that worked better than trying to put her on a specific schedule.

When we went back home, it took about 2 days for her to get back on her regular schedule.

Usually her sleep is so messed up from the plane ride anyway that we just put her on the new time right away.

Seeking some advice from mamas who have done 3 or more time zone traveling. We are going to CA from the east coast for the holidays. We are gone Friday-Friday (with both Fridays being long travel days. oof.)

We have done quite a few trips with LO to CA but we usually keep him on east coast time because we are only there for 3 full days. This time, since it is a bit longer, do you think we should adjust him to west coast time? How do we go about best doing that? He is almost 2.5, a good/easy sleeper and usually sleeps 7 pm - 6 am here.

Typically when we are there DH and I just suffer with getting up with him at 3 or 4 am but I don't really want to do that for a week straight at 22 weeks pregnant. Suggestions/help/advice?!
