Yes, that's normal. My son has a pretty large vocabulary (he is 3.5) and he still pronounces some words wrong. You should hear him say fish. lol

DD is 3 and pronounces a few letters oddly, but surprisingly, she can say "S". Although, words that start with a "Y" is pronounced w, but words that start with "W" is pronounced like a v. I'm not too worried about it.

My 17mo has known our cat Marshall's name for months now, but he pronounces it "mah-hull". And my sister Andrea is ay-ee-ah. Damned consonants!

@illumina: Check out this link. http://mommyspeechtherapy.com/?p=754
"S" in word-initial position may not be mastered until age 5, so no need to worry

My DD is 23 months also and struggles with "S"...

In frozen.. Sven is called "Ben" and when counting to 10 she basically pretends "7" doesnt exists!

I think its normal and "S" is just a hard letter to master!

My daughter is 3.5 and still have problems with s. For example, she can say sister but not snow. Snow is pronounced without the s for her! Lol
I'm not worried.

@illumina: My DD was evaluated for EI at 20 months because she had very little words - one thing I pointed out was that she couldn't even say her brothers name which started with a "S" - she told me that "S" is actually a hard letter to say and not to worry at all

She did eventually learn it but I cant remember exactly when

I remember someone posting a link a while back about which sounds kids learn to say first. Anyone remember it?

My LO is 23 months and can say pretty much everything apart from words starting with an S. Instead of an S she'll use a B in place of it. Is that normal? If the S is in the middle of the word she can say it, so I know it's not a problem with her being able to make the sound at all.
