@krispi: I'm glad to hear the ointment worked. We're trying a topical antibiotic in addition to another round of oral ones this time. It was too widespread the first two times for us to spread the ointment everywhere it needed to go, but I'm hoping the more contained spots respond well this time.

My daughter has had issues with staph bumps on her bottom. It doesn't sound as widespread as your child's, but they are pretty persistant. We've used a prescription ointment that works pretty well but does take several days. We haven't had any oral antibiotics.

@MamaBear87: Thanks! We had a culture done initially, and based on the results, the doctor had been optimistic that the first antibiotic would work. She mentioned that if it came back again, we'd do another culture, so I'm hoping we'll follow up on that tomorrow.

Did you have a culture done to identify what kind of staph it is? Depending on the kind of staph you might need different antibiotics to get it to clear entirely. I'd make sure and get a culture before doing any further treatment
I had MRSA in college and it took crazy strong antibiotics to get it cleared.

Anyone have experience with a toddler and recurring staph infections?

My 19 month had what turned out to be a staph infection across her bottom, tummy, and upper legs. It started mainly as blister-ish bumps in her diaper area and spread. Her pediatrician prescribed an antibiotic (keflex, I think?), which seemed to help. We finished the 10 day course and the blisters across her skin faded. However, the day after her last dose, a few new blisters appeared again...so we went back to the doctor, they confirmed the infection was back (or hadn't really cleared?) and prescribed a new antibiotic. We finished that round of antibiotics on Monday last week. I noticed a new spot on her bottom on Wednesday, but it seemed to start fading the next day, so I didn't think as much of it. Today I've noticed about ten new blisters through her diaper area though, so I'm thinking it's back again and will make her an appointment in the morning. Has anyone else dealt with staph infections with their toddlers/babies like this? What finally cleared it? Any advice?
