We have a daily pants struggle. For some reason my daughter will wear leggings if and only if we call them jeggings. They cannot be referred to as pants. If I accidentally call them pants I must start over with another article of clothing and refer to them only as jeggings.

If it's about modesty you might want to try bloomers. LO wore those in the summer because she is all about looking 'perfect.' Bloomers are acceptable but shorts and pants that you can see are not. I don't know where to buy them but we have a lot of 2T and 3T from consignment shops.

@avivoca: @gingerbebe: Will definitely try the shorts! It is still cold in the AM, around 50, but by the time they head outside its 70, and she could wear a blanket for the 5 minute car ride. Bottoms are not officially required, but they have a nice outdoor play area complete with slides, and I don't want her bottom getting hurt.

Can you try shorts or bike shorts? You can say its so that other people can't see her bum in her dress and perhaps they will feel less like pants to her.

Maybe you could just put shorts on under her dress? Is it too cold for skirts/dresses, or is it something that you/the school require?

Oh she hasn't even met jeans! All she wears are soft stretchy cotton leggings. Today I took three different colors/patterns to school with her so she could choose, but none was the choice.

I will work on pants 24/7, I think reinforcing the need to wear pants wherever we are will help.

Thank you all the for advice, feeling better, and becoming less stressed that her new school teachers are secretly hating us!

My DD went thru a phase of not wanting to wear pants but it was winter so yeah....

I didn't fight her at home - instead I brought them to school and gave them to the teacher and at pickup she was ALWAYS wearing pants under her dress (by pants I mean leggings)

Maybe try that approach - my kids tend to listen to their teachers WAY better than me

Ah the pants battle.. I feel like there is a naked phase kids go through. I'd try experimenting with different types of pants.

My daughter also hates pants that aren't leggings. She flat out refuses them. She wears leggings under dresses, and shorts in the summer for modesty.

@MrsBeluga: I love your title! It made me giggle ;)

My daughter hates structured pants of any kind and will only wear soft, skinny leggings. maybe try that? I've had best luck with Gap and Tea leggings.

What about leggings under the dresses?

My son won't wear jeans,it could be a sensory thing. But pants are not optional, so he wears pants that are soft and not so stiff.

Is it all types of pants she doesn't like? My big girl would much rather wear legging or tights rather than jeans or anything more "structured". It also might be a case of having to enforce a "must wear pants" rule at home and at all times.

Tell me this is normal and will get better?

LO has been home/or at grandmas since she was born, and just started a 2's preschool class on Monday. She is not used to getting dressed in "day" clothes, and today she refused to get "dressed", and she went to preschool in a nightgown and sweatshirt, and the moment we got to school she pulled off her pants (the high is 70 today so weather isnt too bad - but for school she really needs to wear bottoms).

Have you seen similarly dressed kids before or is this way out of the norm? Will this get better on its own or do I need to keep forcing the pants? She normally wears a dress, and at home the pants are optional... please help!
