We had DS1 drop around 20/21 months when his brother was born bc we thought he'd be going to daycare. I dropped DS2 around a year because I was stuck in nap hell btwn the two of them

I transitioned DD1 at 15 mo so 16 mo still seems normal to me to need 2 naps! Our trigger was that her 2nd nap was late and then pushing bed time way too late and she didn't wake up any later so we knew it was time!

@Mrs. Sunshine: @winniebee: it's really amazing how different they can be!

@FaithFertility: I keep thinking that I worked at a daycare where all the toddlers were on one nap a the same time and ds would just fall apart there!

@Orchid: definitely trying to!

DS2 still takes 2 naps daily and he's almost 19m. I think sleep needs are highly individual. I wouldn't worry!

Mine was on two naps until 19 months! Same as you, her big sister is/was sleep resistant so it seemed super bizarre to me. Though, I have to note that I thought she was STTN but as it turns out, she was up in the MOTN, not crying or calling for me but playing in her bed for up to 4 hours at night! That's when I put restrictions on how much and when she naps. It's helped a little but some days she's in her bed playing from 4 am until I go get her around 615.

My DD is 20mos & several days a week takes 2 naps. She won't usually nap longer than 1.5hrs at a time, though, so together, her naps are usually only 2-2.5hrs each day, at most.

My second son wasn't on 1 nap until 17-18 months! We tried around 15 and he wasn't ready. Tried again at 16 and still wasn't ready! Between 17-18 months we forced it because it was summer and we didn't want to be stuck home for his morning nap. Even at just over 2, there are times he may fall asleep in the car for 15 mins in the morning but will still take a nap after lunch. He definitely has higher sleep needs than my first son. My first son was on one nap by 14 months and if he even slept 5 mins in the morning, he wouldn't sleep again. And my first son started dropping his nap around 27 months. My second son is 26 months and is nowhere near ready to drop his nap. Kids can be so different!

@SweetiePie: anywhere from 9 to 11 depending on how the previous night went. If it's 11-2 ish. He usually does down at 7-730 for the night.

Both of mine dropped to one nap on the later side. DS1 was 20 months and DS2 was 17 months. We kinda had to force DS1 at that point, but DS2 started fighting his afternoon naps and eventually wouldn't nap at all in the afternoon if he slept in the morning.

My kiddo just dropped to 1 nap consistently at 21 months. He has done 1 nap per day at daycare since about 16 months but at home he still really wanted 2. As long as your LO is still sleeping well at night, I say let them sleep

Me. My 16 month old is still waffling between one and two naps. She has had a string of really early wake ups (5:30) and if that happens, she definitely needs 2. If she sleeps in to her normal wake up (6:30), she's ok with one. This past Sunday, I aimed for one nap, but she woke up after an hour and I ended up putting her down for a 30 min cat nap at 5 pm!

T is 18m today and really just in the last couple of weeks he's been ready for one nap. He likes his sleep A LOT and at 16m he could do one nap if it was really long like you said, but he was definitely not ready for that every day.

Mine was on 2 naps till 18 months! It's not crazy.
15 months is only the average age to drop to 1 nap. Some earlier some later.
You may have some days where it seems like 1 is too little but 2 is too many.
What time is that 3hour nap? Morning? Is it possible that LO isn't getting enough overnight sleep so they're compensating with that long morning nap?

You can try cutting the nap short in order to still fit a 2nd nap in and keep the same general schedule.

Anyone else's LO still not drop to one nap at about 16m? Sometimes he will take one long one (3 hrs) and I refuse to give him a second. Sometimes he does ok but if he woke up the night before he is FUSSY for a nap!

My older child was nap resistant but I'm feeling sort of paranoid about why this is happening. He seems too old for this. I think teething is a factor for his night wake ups but still, I feel like he should be switching to one soon!
