They say sometimes that 12-18 mos is the peak of separation anxiety. I would talk to the teachers about how long it takes her to settle in after you leave. My LO is older (26 mos) but we do a lot of talking about our day and what will happen in what order to ease transitions. For school, we talk about when it will come back (after nap, after outside time)and what we will do after pick up (run an errand, what we will have for dinner, etc.). It might be worth trying?

I'd say phase. DD did the same thing around 18m and she had been going to the same daycare center since 8 weeks. It went away after a couple of months. She started shortly after another kid in her class was doing it.

We haven't gotten there yet (DS is 16 months) but I remember this happening to my friend's daughter at 18 months and it was just a phase. Hope that is the case for your LO too!

Is she clingy otherwise? If I remember correctly around then is common for a clingy / separation anxiety phase.

aw, i'm sorry that drop-offs have been so hard for her. how is she at pick-up? have the daycare teachers said anything about how she is acting during the day? if she eventually adjusts after you leave and generally has a good time, i lean towards thinking that it is a phase. i can't speak from experience though. i hope it's just a phase and nothing more serious!

My 18 month old has always loved her daycare, she has been going since she was 12 weeks old to a center-based place. Her infant teacher actually moved up with her to toddlers, so its been a pretty consistent group of people for her.

Lately she suddenly has become super clingy at drop off, and screams hysterically when I leave. Today it escalated to the point where she started crying like crazy before we even got to her room, and then she was just trying so hard to get out of the room.

I'm hoping this is just a phase, but it worries me that maybe something else is going on and she can't tell me yet. Any similar experiences / advice?
