In that situation, I think it is because he doesn't feel well. That happened once to the DD and she had an ear infection when I took her to the doctor. I hope Charlie gets better soon!

Sometimes DD wakes up early and cries; if I open her door and she starts getting more upset, I just leave her. Sometimes she goes back to sleep, sometimes she needs some time to herself to wake up all the way.

Poor Charlie. :( I hope he gets better soon!

@mrs.bee: That's what we did too. We just left the room, closed the door and let him cry. He fell asleep and then woke up and was fine. I figured he was just really frustrated, sick and sleepy and wanted to be left alone (we all feel like that sometimes!). Glad he passed out! Poor Charlie. Hope he feels better soon.

update: he cried for 40 min and then fell back asleep. being there beside him just seemed to upset him more, so we left him alone and he fell back asleep.

Poor charlie! :( My son did that once when he was sick. He woke up from his nap and was BAWLING hysterically (which is very unlike him). He didn't want me nor my mom. He didn't want his Mickey doll. He didn't really know what he wanted. He was hysterical. After 30 minutes of hard core crying, he just passed out and then woke up an hour later and was fine. The only advice I can give you is to just wait it out. =\

I don't have any good suggestions either, but poor guy :( could be a combo of not feeling well and an off-nap. the LO i watch sometimes has bad naps and she's miserable after, particularly when she's sick

29-month-old Charlie has been sick with a throat infection lately, but slept pretty well last night (9 pm - 6 am) and has been in a great mood all day.

He didn't go down for his nap today easily, and didn't go down for Mrs. Bee until after 2 or so; he ended up sleeping maybe 30-40 minutes. Then he woke up sobbing and crying, and has been inconsolable. He didn't want anything to drink or anything to do with either parent; he just wanted to be alone and in the dark. I'm watching him on the monitor now and he seems to be settling down a bit. At least, he sometimes stops crying for a bit and plays with his sleeves (that's how he self soothes).

He might just be tired, or maybe he's in pain (either a sore throat or a headache)... or maybe all of the above? Not really sure what to do other than to watch him on the monitor...

Does your LO wake up sobbing ever after a short nap? How do you handle it?
