We've had our fair share of early wakeups, and boy do they suck! LO also had early wakeups in the beginning of the transition from 2 naps to 1, probably from overtiredness. Do you have blackout blinds? We have them and it helps tremendously since it gets light out so early in the morning.

When you say you tried an early bedtime and it didnt work, what do you mean by that? Did she wake up even earlier like 4? or did she sleep until 5 like "normal"? Because even if she still wakes at 5, if she goes to bed early and catches up on sleep due to her sleep deficient from going from 2-1 naps, she will probably be more rested during the day and will make the nap transition easier. When she gets caught up on sleep, then you can start putting her to bed a little later and HOPEFULLY she will be well rested enough to sleep in more. Early wakeups in our case are almost always due to a late bedtime/overtiredness.

sorry you're going through this. early wakeups have been the bane of my existence for almost a year (LO is 15 months). LO has never napped well at daycare. these days he takes one nap at daycare, but on the weekends he still gets 2. he goes down for the 2 naps fine--having only 1 nap for the other 5 days doesn't seem to interfere with the 2-nap days. but we still have early wakeups most of the time because of the overall sleep deprivation (at least that's my theory).

some people get those clocks that change colors when it's time to get up (meaning that they have to stay in the crib/bed until it's time to go), but don't know if she would be able to comprehend that yet.

We are having the same issue. R was sleeping till 6 or 630 and now it is 5 or 530. She doesn't get good naps at day care, due to other kids not napping and waking her up. So she is exhausted which makes her sleep even less. We have tried putting her to bed early or later, and nothing helps.
She wakes up and whins/talks to herself usually for 30 mins before the full on crying starts. I try and leave her till 630, per our pedi, so she learns that is what up time, but it isn't working.

Ugh. I'm so sorry. We went through a phase like that as well and it was brutal. She eventually started sleeping till 6am again on her own.

Help! My 17 month old has been waking up five or even earlier for about the past two weeks. Before that she was sleeping from 7 PM to 6 AM. I'm fine waking at six but five is horrible! My first inclination was that she was overtired because of going from two naps to one, so I tried putting her down earlier from 6-630. When that didn't work, I started putting her down later, with mixed results. She did sleep until six the two days we put her down at 7:45. Last night I put her down at 7:30 and she woke up at 4:45 this morning.

If I just go in and tell her it's still night time and try to get her to go back to sleep she won't. I go back to bed and ignore her and she whines, cries and says mama on and off for 45 mins after which my husband goes and gets her because he can't stand to let her cry for longer than 45 minutes.

I would try to switch her back to two naps but she is doing only one at daycare 2 days/week so I feel like that will mix her up more. Ideas?
