@togetherthroughlife: hi! Sorry I just saw this. We have only used the Mackenzie but we have had probably 4-6 bottles total and they were all really great! Good luck!

@MamaCate: I haven’t seen these before! I just checked them out online. Thanks. Have you only used this Mackenzie type? Or it looks like they have another style called Jayden?

@togetherthroughlife: I would suggest the pottery barn kids ones. We used them for a while around that age. They never leaked, stayed super cold, and never got mildewy/gross. They come with a straw and we used them that way but they work without the straw too.

We used the small size for that age. Good luck!

@togetherthroughlife: we used the pottery barn kids water bottles probably starting around 3. They never leaked, stayed super cold and the kids liked them. They come with a straw but they work with the straw or without. The little silicone thing in the top pops out to get washed.

I know exactly what you mean about the camelbak getting gross because that has happened here but we never had that with the PBK ones.

I would suggest the little size for the 3 year old.

Thanks guys for the suggestions so far! The Thermos brand seems like a front runner but I really don’t like straw cups! For some reason ours always get so gross and mildewy despite only using water in them and cleaning them regularly. Not sure what I’m doing wrong. (With the camelbak I mean)

My 4 year old has been using the Takeya kids 14 oz straw bottle for a while - I like it because the straw is hard plastic and he’s a chewer who was ruining Camelbak and Funtainer straws so quickly.

We use hydroflask water bottles. I don't have a dishwasher so I can't speak to that, but we've had ours for years and they have held up really well and have been leak proof (both straw and regular caps). I just upgraded my 10 year old to the 32oz one and he loves not having to refill it during the day. My 5 year old has a 12oz one.

We use the thermos funtainer and I put it all in the dishwasher. So far nothing has been damaged (2 years)

We also used the thermos funtainer at that age. I found the straw and spout easy to clean. But you can also buy replacement spouts for fairly cheap, so I always kept a few on hand and replaced as needed.

My DD is 7 and our current favorite water bottle for her is the Owala FreeSip 24oz. But I think it would be too big for a 3 year old.

We've used the Thermos Funtainer water bottles for a couple years and have been pretty pleased with them. I think they have about the same number of pieces as the camelbak straw cup though, so probably not what you're looking for. The straws seem way easier to clean when I compared the two though, so I found it a little easier for upkeep. I wash the straw parts by hand, but pop the rest in the dishwasher.

I've had so much trouble finding a leak-proof straw water bottle that doesn't have lots of parts, so I'll be following to hopefully find some better ideas!

Help! I’m looking for a water bottle for my 3 year old. We currently use Camelbaks and I’m just tired of them. Too many pieces. So if it has as many parts as a Camelbak Eddy straw cup, it’s a no go. It needs to be pretty much spillproof and easy to take small drinks out of. My 7 year old has done a Nalgene since Kindergarten and that has been so much easier but I know the toddler can’t handle the wide mouth style yet.

It needs to be totally dishwasher safe, too. Please share product names or links!
