This happens to me sometimes, I don't know how well you can compare adult sleep to child sleep, but if I go to bed too early, what ends up happening is I finish a sleep cycle and then I am up for literally hours in the middle of the night, finally falling back asleep at around 4 am and waking again for the day at 5:30.

Maybe make bedtime later?

@Truth Bombs: The only problem with this is that he doesn't just cuddle, he cuddles and fidgets with my rings/earrings, so then I can't sleep. Plus after a while he gets antsy and starts trying to climb off the bed/jump on the bed/talk us into going downstairs to play. I'm not opposed to doing this and just dealing with the bad night but if I had another option I'd prefer it.

@Alivoo01: It's SO weird because as far as I can tell it happens randomly - usually he sleeps through the night, his naps are always about 2 hours long, I can't find anything that triggers these late night parties.

@Truth Bombs: Agreed! If he just wants to cuddle and is content laying there with you in bed, I would. Just so you can get some shut eye too! Weird he's awake for that long in the MOTN though! Wonder if he's sleeping too much during the day?

If it's not every night I would probably just let him come to bed with yo since he happily cuddles. I also have a hard time sleeping sometimes and when I do I like my husband to cuddle me. So I can't in good conscience let my LO scream and cry when she just wants the same things I want.

Every so often, for about the past 6 months, my son will wake up around midnight/1am and just be awake. He cries and cries until somebody goes in and then he's perfectly content to lay down in his crib and hold his daddy's hand but he doesn't go to sleep, he just lies there. For HOURS. Picking him up to rock him doesn't help. Leaving him alone just makes him angry and then he goes back to yelling/crying. Sometimes we bring him into our bed just so my husband can be more comfortable and again, he's happy to snuggle with me but he doesn't go to sleep. He's usually awake until about 4am, and then drops off again. This happens about once a month, and I guess I'm wondering the best way to deal with it. I sympathize - sometimes I can't sleep either! - and think we just need to suck it up and resign ourselves to the occasional bad night until he grows out of it. My husband suggested this morning (last night was the most recent bad one) that next time maybe we just need to let him cry himself to sleep but we tried that last time and he cried (inconsistently) for 90 minutes before we took pity on him (also I pointed out that if we were all going to be awake ANYWAY, maybe there was no point in having him also heartbroken). It is, however, easy for me to say because I'm not the one that goes in there - I get to stay in bed while my husband ends up on the floor with his arm stuck through the slats of the crib.

Anybody have any thoughts/advice/suggestions?
