We just got a cute Benetton puffer coat with a detachable hood, but it looks like all their current versions are weirdly shiny.

@erinbaderin: Oh those peacoats are so cute! I didn't see those. I'll have to bring DD and check them out in person. Thanks!

Wow, I didn't realize that the boy coats have removable hoods and the girl ones don't! That's stupid.

Would this one be warm enough: http://oldnavy.gapcanada.ca/browse/product.do?cid=1020640&vid=1&pid=292106003

Or this wool pea coat: http://oldnavy.gapcanada.ca/browse/product.do?cid=1020640&vid=1&pid=276046013

We were gifted a Uniqlo down jacket. It has a detachable hood. It's super light but surprisingly warm. If you don't have a Uniqlo near you, I think you can order it online?

@KayKay: Good point on going a size up on the patagonias. Maybe I will suck it up and just get one. Of course last year (when she was 2T), we splurged on a patagonia puff in a size up which still fits...but it has a hood! I thought it would be more useful with the hood. Ah silly me.

@psw27: I know, I don't get it either!

@catlady: it actually annoys me on your behalf that the girl coats don't have removable hoods. Why is it different ?!

@psw27: Oh thanks! I didn't check the boys section. Now I just need to see if my DD will wear a coat that isn't pink (probably not). :)

We typically do the Patagonia sweater w/o the hood. But many people around these parts (MN....so they know!) swear that the down/pseudo-down ones that look similar at Costco are just as good for a lighter-weight, carseat-friendly winter coat! But I will say that you can buy the Patagonia one extra big (because of the elastic on the sleeves!) and get 2-3 years of wear out of it per kid.

Columbia usually has something similar (down or artificial down), and often you can find them cheaper at their outlet. Also check out LLBean, REI Outlet, and Backcountry.com!

We were lucky enough to get a secondhand North Face down coat (very similar to the Patagonia down sweater) for cheap. Maybe you could look in local b/s/t groups? It's been a great coat.

My 3 year old has been increasingly refusing to wear coats that have hoods. I've been trying to find a coat that is warm enough for winter (or at least down to say 30 deg) that either has no hood or has a removable one. Anyone have any recommendations? It seems they are hard to find!

I see the Patagonia down sweater but not sure I want to spend that much. I also see that H&M has a bunch...anyone have experience with H&M kids outerwear?

She is a size 3T (but we could size up to 4T if necessary).
