at least 50 words in two languages? yeah, i wouldn't worry about it! i know my 18-month old LO knows certain words but refuses to say them--at this point i'm not concerned.

I think it's completely normal! Up until recently, my LO would always prefer to use an action rather than use his words - so he would wave hi / bye and do signs rather than talk. He was always able to get his point across, just not with words. I just continued to model saying hi and bye to everything (not only people) - like buses, ants, grass, trucks, etc.

He is 28 months and finally saying hi and bye regularly and a little chatterbox.

Till this day (27 months) LO hates saying "hi". She will wave, but she never really liked saying hello. She loves saying bye though.

I am not sure what you can do to encourage it, but i tell her, "N, please be nice. Can you use your words and say hello?" I only say that to her once as i don't want to push it.

For a long time LO would only sign please even though she could say it. I think sometimes they just don't feel like doing it for whatever reason. After a few weeks she starting saying please more often but she still prefers to sign it. LO is almost 23 months.

DS is 20 months today and he literally just started saying hi a few weeks ago. Before, he sounded just like your LO (minus the 2 languages.) And now he says hi to EVERYONE! I wouldn't worry.

DS is almost 20 months and has a recognizable amount of words in two languages (I've lost count, but it's more than 50 each), He learns new words almost daily. And uses them in practice. His receptive language has always been great.

He refuses to say Hi. He says bye-bye. He knows what Hi means, but prefers to wave and when we suggest he say HI with his words, he shakes his head and says no.

There are other words that he refuses to verbally say too... normal? Do they outgrow it? What can we do to encourage?
