@808love: I still have to remind DD to say please sometimes. She also says it the most when she wants something to eat!

@Andrea: I tried to teach her based on what you said and she says it but mostly only if she wants to nurse. It sounds like Baaayyyy when she says it. It's still PLEASE in her language so I accept it.

"Use your words!" That's a good one. We don't expect her to but we try anyway. Do you make your girls say, "please?" Another one I'm working on at least once a day. Not sure if that's reasonable.

@Andrea: you don't want to reinforce it. Yelling or punishing is negative reinforcement that the child may prefer to nothing because it's a form of attention. It's so frustrating!

@Andrea: I like that Feist song too!! :) Thanks. I'll check out Blues Clues. I've always liked Dora but after I watched it a few times, it did start to annoy me. So only in small doses.
@Mrs.Jacks: I can see that happening one day here too. :D I would like to know the magic cure as well.
@artbee: I wouldn't have guessed you were shy at all. :D I'm sure she will be just as lovely.

@808love: search for the phonics song and a lot will come up. they have the entire alphabet as well as individual letters. sesame street does a lot of individual letter videos as well. for myself, i enjoyed watching india arie sing the alphabet with elmo. oh and feist sings 1-2-3-4! i didn't mind watching those over and over! now on netflix, we have been watching blues clues. i like how it is not annoying and teaches problem solving. we first started watching dora and i did not like her -- i am glad the LO decided not to like dora as well. :-D

@Mrs. Jacks: any tips for cutting down on whining?

@Mrs. Jacks: It's so true. The love just grows and grows...as if you can't possibly love them anymore, and then you do.

@autumnlove: Her tastes have changed every few months. I keep a playlist.
At first it was all about the musical tune: The Animal Sounds. The Phonics Song, 5 Little Monkeys, and various Yo Gabba Gabba (Party in My Tummy/I Like to Dance). I used all those with her just for a few mins a day to help her sustain Tummy Time and strengthening sitting up muscles. Nowadays it's Peppa Pig, Barney-Wheels on The Bus, a few Sesame Street songs, Where's the Monkey, The Alphabet Train, The Fruit Train. The Signing Time lady also captures her interest.

I'm just so excited. My 14 month old LO just started saying tons of words. A couple new ones a day. When I ask her what sound does a _____ (elephant/sheep/monkey/lion etc) make? she answers with the appropriate sound without any pictures shown. Early on, our ped. said she would be a 'talker' ---he noticed from her babbling to him at appts. So anyway... it doesn't mean anything in the big scope of things since everything falls into place, as it should. I'm just really happy she can communicate with us now and likes language. I'm also glad I did NOT spend my limited time (working mom) with flashcards and used only a little bit of sign language. She's definitely got the hang of her sounds. She even repeated the alphabet after me the other day. Got stuck on W so didn't do X and Z. Most of the letters actually sounded like the real letters and the others were awkward attempts. Anyway...for us, we just read books to her from one month old, in the swing and modeling by reading ourselves. Maybe a book a day depending on her interest level. Oh and also we watch some 'educational' videos on Youtube while I'm splitscreen typing on Hellobee.
