@snowjewelz: those seem like normal mispronounciations to me, even for an older toddler! but i guess R hasn't really been speaking too long.

There are some things K can't really pronounce either, like -

Cookie - Key
Ipad - Pad
Bunny - Nunny (no matter how many times we say bunny she just says nunny)
Grapes/strawberries/blueberries - They are all "biz"?! No idea how she came up with that
Sleep - seep
There- dere
This - dis
Banana - nana

I should have named her pacifier something else, b/c paci = binky and her lovey is blankie so they kinda both sound the same haha.

Our 22 month still does this a lot (truck = uck, thank you = tha you, juice = ju), and I am assuming it's ok going with what others said about consistency and meaning something to him. He just has a big mix of words he says completely and words he says the beginning or end only.

My son totally had his own language for a while.

Muffin was "mmmff"
Yo Gabba Gabba was "dum dum" lol
Angry Birds were "GGs"
hockey was "gung gung"
It was weird!

He was a fast talker, too.. but total gibberish with a few understandable words mixed in until he was almost 2.5. Then all of a sudden he was speaking correct words, full sentences, etc.
I had a few people ask me if he was in EI that summer before the language really popped.

I think that's totally normal! C is the same way, but she's really starting to progress in the past month.

@winniebee: Our pediatrician said it didn't matter what the word sounded like--we should count it as long as it was consistent. So, if she said "KAH" or something else random for dog, and said it every time she saw our dog, it meant something to her and we could count it. :P

@winniebee: At 21 months he still uses a lot of one syllable words but his list has expanded from this a lot. I think it just takes time.

@T.H.O.U.: I definitely count them, but I'm wondering if it's an issue that he is only saying a syllable? Like every time the school bus goes by he shouts "ba!" so I know that's *his* word for it!

R is 17 months old and just really starting to have some words. He says mama, dada, ball, bubble, bye bye, binki, up, that, car, bus, dog, balloon, uh oh, water and a few others. But a lot of his words I only know what they mean. Like bus he says "ba" or binki he says "bay" and up he says "uh" and dog is "da." He also calls a truck a bus "ba." It's like he says the first syllables of a lot of words but that's it. It's hard for me to remember DS1's language at this point, but I feel like his words were more like real words at this point? Maybe not? Is this normal for first words? I'll ask at 18 month appt but I'm wondering if this is something to be concerned about.
