My ped said that after a year, he doesn't care about how much water or milk lo drinks so I try not to worry! Lo drinks a lot of wcm (maybe 15-20oz/day? I don't keep track...) but not that much water, and also still nurses

She has always drank quite a bit of water I generally offer it all day and she only gets milk at meals and juice at breakfast. She drinks more when it is out of my cup though.

She does a good job with water now that I've given over my water bottle. She preferred it to her own bottle. If she doesn't drink much I notice it in her BMs. She's prone to constipation so I push water.

@Mae: she does drink milk, but not lots. I'm always concerned about it but the pedi never is and she's been this way since stopping formula almost 2 years ago. It seems like it's working for her!

A few months ago I bought some juice boxes that are labeled as "flavored water beverage". If she's really not drinking I'll give her one of those just so I know she got 4oz. Regular juice from a cup doesn't do the trick though. It's just the fact that it's in a box is interesting to her.

Eta - she eats lots of fruits and veggies so she must get some fluids that way too.

My LO has never been big into water. I keep a cup out for him and offer him sips of my water, which he is MUCH more likely to take. When we first made the transition to WCM, I would do thin fruit smoothies with water instead of milk to help constipation issues and those worked nicely in place of doing juice (handful of spinach, blueberries or whatever fruit, some yogurt).

I chase my 2.5 year old around with her water cup all day long but she never drinks much. I would be shocked if she drank 6 ounces. She's always been this way though, so I'm not sure what else I can do.

I offer it all the time, especially if we are outside. I find it's the best thing to ward off constipation. Also, I wouldn't do the juice thing unless desparate. I think it would be a crutch that would be hard to get rid of.

I never paid much attention to how much LO drank as long as he had typical wet diapers and seemed content. He's always been good about self-regulation and has followed his curve, so I've just made sure it's always available to him and not worried too much. You could always talk to the ped too, especially since there were some feeding issues in the past.

Don't really notice the amount. If I find that I have to refill his water bottle at some point during the day, I'm happy. Otherwise, I just make sure to offer it a lot. As long as he's not dehydrated or constipated, I"m not concerned.

It sounds like your LO is getting a lot of liquids though, if she's having 20oz of formula. I wouldn't worry about the water.

How much do you notice/care how much your toddlers drink?

We are still in a bit of a transitional phase. LO (13 mo) is still taking 20 oz formula per day, although we will be switching to WCM soon I hope (pending our dairy trials that are currently ongoing because LO is/was MSPI). She's been doing a ton better with solids and is eating 3 meals and two snacks per day. We offer water in various straw cups with all food and also just keep it in her play area so she has access to it whenever she wants.

Some days she does what I would consider to be "good" with water... drinking maybe 6 or so ounces throughout the day. Lately though she hasn't really wanted water at all so she takes a few sips here and there (getting maybe 2 oz all day?).

She is definitely having less wet diapers than when she was on more formula, but still *enough* I think. So... does it matter? Is this something I should push or just sort of let her not drink much if she doesn't want to?

My husband seems a little more concerned about it than I am and suggested we give her some watered down juice to see if that would encourage her to drink more. I don't necessarily feel like that is needed because she's still having enough wet diapers and I want her to eventually learn to just drink water and not want sugary drinks all the time. But if I should really be pushing more liquids I'd be willing to give it a shot. I just wonder/hope that when we switch her to WCM she will sort of naturally drink a little less of that and start drinking a bit more water as she eats even more solids.
