We actually do our best to not give snacks or give very small snacks between meals because if he eats snacks he'll usually be too full by dinner time. A daycare day is usually breakfast at 6am, snack at 9am, lunch at 11:30am, snack at 3pm, dinner at 5pm. Dinner during the week is hit or miss because of the snacks during the day. We can't get rid of the daycare snacks because the other kids get snack so he tantrums if he doesn't get some too so we've asked that they give him half of what the other kids get. On the weekend we keep the same breakfast, lunch, and dinner but skip morning snack and only give a small afternoon snack. We constantly offer water and milk.

My son is 19 months and this is our schedule, more or less:

Wake up: 9-10 ounces cow milk, one cookie (Plasmon baby)
Breakfast, 1/4-1/c oatmeal with berries and one banana, made with milk
After morning nap: 100-125 grams yogurt
Lunch: 1 wedge laughing cow cheese, 4 teaspoons pastina, 1 tablespoon peas
After afternoon nap: snack of some sort, usually a piece of fruit or some spelt crackers
Dinner: whatever we're eating, although he usually doesn't eat it all and chows on a piece of bread and a fruit pouch

I'd say a little snack between his last nap and dinner. Not too much so that he's still hungry for dinner. And once he's older and drops a nap it's usually once between breakfast and lunch and once between nap and dinner. But I'm terrible at the whole snack thing. If we're out and about then he'll get some; but if we're home he's too busy playing and I forget unless he asks for it. Or if he sees me snack he'll want some too.

charlie gets a snack at daycare around 4pm. Dinner is at 6:30. By the time it's dinner, he's usually really hungry since he eats lunch at noon.

LO has a snack between her pm nap and dinner. It's either fruit, Arrowroot cookies, or even just leftovers from lunch (if there were any).

@chopsuey119: Good to know re: the milk. That's probably about what he drinks right now.

@Mrs. Yoyo: I feel bad when my LO is ravenous at dinner time too. When I give her a snack to eat 1-2 hours before dinner though, she picks at her food and doesn't eat much. :T

Maybe if dinner's going to be late you can give him a little something to hold him over?

My LO probably had 3-4 ounces of milk/day while I was still nursing her. She drinks about 10-12 ounces now.

@chopsuey119: Thanks. I asked because he seemed so ravenous at dinner tonight, which wasn't until 6 (so he didn't eat between lunchtime at noon and dinner at 6). We used to BF before his afternoon nap, but that's *mostly* weaned now.

I think I'm also looking for another opportunity to get him more used to cow's milk, which he's taking, but in small amounts.

Hurmm.. I didn't start giving my LO snacks until I dried up and weaned her at 15 months. Doesn't look like your LO needs a snack .. ?

I give my LO 1-2 snacks a day depending on how hungry she is. Usually she asks for it (goes to the fridge and asks for fruit or cheese, or goes to our pantry or points to something on the counter and says "kka kka" (cookie/snack in korean).

How many snacks do you give your toddler? I haven't given Baby Y any up until this point, but now that we're down to nursing just twice (wake-up and bedtime), I'm thinking I may need to add one? But where?

Our general schedule looks something like this: wake/nurse 7, breakfast 8:30, nap 10-11, lunch noon, nap 2:30-4, dinner 5:30 or 6, bedtime 7:45. The only time that looks remotely plausible is right before or after the afternoon nap.
