My DD was 8 lbs 12 oz, 22" at birth. She's about 26 lbs now at 14 months... I'm not sure how tall she is, but she's TALL... probably 32 or 33+"? She was 31" at 12 months, but she's definitely gone through a growth spurt. She started walking around 10.5-11 months and has maybe been gaining even more since then??

My little one used to be very lean, but she is starting to look a little chubbier now and I have started having the same concerns as you are having. I plan to talk to her pediatrician about it at her next appointment... at her last appointment, LO was 99th percentile for height and 90th for weight, so they said not to worry, she could even gain a little bit and still be proportional to her height.

I do worry she is eating/drinking too much though... she LOVES milk and I have had to really work to restrict her to 16-24oz/day. She also eats anything and everything...luckily that means most healthy foods (she loves vegetables, fruit, fish, chicken, beans, etc.), so I am planning to try to cut back a little on puffs, bread, pasta etc. and give her more vegetables and protein.

Thanks everyone! I think "solid" is probably the best way to describe him - he's definitely not skinny, but I would never call him "fat" either. I'll bring it up to the doctor at his 18 month appt in March, but it's good to know he's not the only solid kid out there. I feel like everyone I know is always struggling to get their toddler to eat more, while I'm wondering if I'm letting mine eat too much.

We get comments from people constantly wondering if the NFL has called yet. It doesn't help that I have a very slender build, so I've actually had more than one person ask if he's actually mine...always love that one!

@SeptMomma12: well, one he's only been walking a month so I'm assuming he's not a fully confident runner yet?

My nephew was 30 lbs at his 18m check up. And bases on how he had been gaining the Dr said if he was still gaining at the same rate at his 2yr he's getting switched to low fat! LOL

I don't know his height but he's a a good height for his age. He's definitely a big boy buy I wouldn't say he's obese.

I'll just wait to see what the Dr saids.

There is a boy in my LO's class who is 16 months old and he weighs THIRTY FIVE pounds!!! But he's proportional and really not fat. Just a big kid! He's developing perfectly fine so I wouldn't think it's anything to worry about.

My lo Started low and we worked hard to get him up but he was gaining a pound a month when he started walking. I think the real slow down happens closer to 2 years old.

My daughter was about the same at 18 months (30lbs, 33" or so). But she was SUPER lean. Like no rolls, no baby fat, she's just solid.

By age 2, she slowing down and was only 33-35lbs.

My son has not really slowed down with his growth and he's 16 months. He was born weighing 10lbs 9 oz and 20.5 inches. He is now about 31 pounds and 32 inches. He has consistently been 90%+ - I think once he was 75% for height and then shot back up to over 90% at his next well visit.

Walking, crawling, etc didn't slow down his growth. He is not chubby at all but rather solid. I don't worry about because that is just his physical build (similar to DH). The doctor has also never been concerned because he has stayed on his growth curve.

I've just got a big boy!

C is large, but she is tall and proportionate. She's 22 months and is 29lbs and 36" tall.

Honestly, some kids are just bigger than others. If your doctor isn't concerned, I wouldn't be either.

My brothers and I were all big, and my mom said none of us slowed until after we turned 2.

LO has been a big baby from the start - 8 lbs 14 oz and 22 in at birth. He's almost 17 months and now and 30 lbs and 33.5 in. He looks silly in his day care class because he's so much larger than all his "peers." Everyone kept telling me it would slow down when he started walking, but he's gained 1.5 lbs since he started walking a month ago! I don't feel like he eats too much, and I make sure everything is very healthy, but he definitely doesn't have the typical toddler pickiness - kid likes his food!

I'm probably being silly, but should I be worried about obesity at this age? DH and I are both tall and thin, but DH was overweight as a child and we'd really like to avoid that for LO for obvious health reasons. I expressed my concern to the doctor at his 15 month appt and she said he was "proportional" and would slow down when he was walking, but I haven't seen that happen.

Anyone else have a large toddler? Did their growth eventually slow down?
