This is so interesting to read, so many different ways kids sleep!

Since we already have a comforter for the twin bed, I'll just be getting a duvet set to start with to see how she does...

When my littles go to sleep, they always end up a hot, twisted mess of animals, sheets, comforters, and kid, but . . . I'm really glad we have them. We always go cover them back up right before bed, and the older they get the more I find them burrowed into their comforter. That said, we moved them straight to twin beds. I don't think I would have bought a comforter if it was for a toddler bed that they would only be in for a little while.

My son has had a duvet since 2.5 and he uses it in the winter. This will be my DD's first winter out of a sleepsack, so we'll see! We just switched her to a twin and I'm in the process of buying her bedding and I plan on going the duvet route for her too.

We still use sleep sacks for my 27 month-old. We have a blanket folded at the foot of her bed and occasionally offer it to her, but so far she's not ready for it. She does have s small pillow, and we let her choose a fun sheet set when we moved her to her big bed. She chose flamingoes. 😊

Yes, they both use their quilts/comforters. It might take a little while for her to take to it - I usually just put it on once and if they kicked it off it stayed off in the beginning.

@Beehive: This is my kid too (3 and change). She is using a pillow finally (though I think it's because she's getting long enough that her head just doesn't have anywhere else to go), but she sleeps in long PJs year round because there's no keeping that kid under a blanket.

I was firmly in camp comforter with a duvet cover until I discovered quilts. I have a madras plaid quilt for my son's bed and it has been a game changer in terms of the bed for him. I got a queen sized quilt and am able to tuck it down between the mattress and box spring to keep it in place and my son actually uses it.

I am really curious about the dream blankets, I am trying to see if I can make my own using double gauze fabric...if you have one with a print, can you see the print through the layers? How is it bound?

Try to get a "lighter" comforter. My LO moves around a LOT too. At first, we had a duvet but she didnt use it at all. As soon as we got a lighter comforter (PBK), she would go under the covers. She still kicks it off sometimes.

My inlaws from Korea sent me a toddler "sleep sack" but it looks like a long vest that you wear over your pjs. I wonder why they don't make it here, bc it's perfect for toddlers who can't stand blankets

We have always either had a down comforter/duvet cover OR a quilt on DD1s bed, in addition to the sheets. She typically starts the night out "tucked in", but since she moves around all the time, often ends up laying on top of it at some point.

My 3.5 year old as used hers consistently since she got her big girl bed at 28 months. My 21 month old moved to a big girl bed a few nights ago. She loved tucking into her sheets and comforter, but she's not actually sleeping under them so far. She's still sleeping the exact same way she did in her crib. We'll see if that changes...

Even at 5 she prefers to just have a fleece/fuzzy blanket. She has a full sheet set and a comforter on her bed including two pillows. She actually sleeps with some obnoxious furry princess pillow someone gave her and at least one fuzzy blanket but sometimes up to three blankets. She doesn't like the real pillow, flat sheet or the comforter.

It's also not uncommon for her to sleep sideways on her bed.

Mine is in a toddler bed which is just her crib with the side off, so she is basically still using crib bedding. She has a fitted sheet, an A&A swaddle, and she uses an A&A dream blanket as a heavier blanket. No pillow, no real comforter.

She uses a quilt that a friend made her when she was a baby. She usually has the flat sheet and the quilt and if has trouble falling asleep (aka, getting out of bed 80 times), I'll give her a special sleepy blanket (just a fuzzy throw blanket) spritzed with lavender. It stays on mostly most nights.

We have a sheet set (and like @Smurfette the flat sheet does often get pushed down by morning). We started with a duvet cover and it was annoying bc somehow she would get the comforter inside all twisted around. So we moved to just a printed comforter from PBK and that has worked great. She's been in her big girl bed since she was 2 and she's always managed to mostly stay under the comforter. At 4 she sometimes kicks it around at night but she pulls it back up around herself in the middle of the night. I think the key is to have a comforter with enough weight and is actually made to be on the size of bed the child is using. Most people I know use smaller blankets and unless your child sleeps absolutely still that blanket is going to move around and fall off and is just hard to keep on. But a big comforter that comes down over and around the sides of the bed and that your child snuggles down into is better at staying put over the course of the night.

@josina: I am so confused about bedding! I'm debating getting a sheet set first and see what happens in the winter, or just starting out right away with a comforter/duvet set. It will be cold in the winter, but I just don't see her staying under the covers.....? It's hard to tell now b/c we all don't really go under the cover.

We transitioned to a big bed at 26 months and she's always used the comforter. She runs hot so it gets kicked off often in favor of just a sheet, but even with all of her moving around, I've watched her on the video monitor grab it and pull it over herself when she's cold.

I think E will use one, at least at the beginning of the night. :) Right now he's a bit obsessed with blankets and sleeps with 3 baby blankets and occasionally a blanket he steals from the living room.
I plan on getting a plain white or blue sheet set, and hopefully having my MIL making him a quilt that matches his 'woodland' decor.
