I loved the 17 m phase. She was just delightful. She definitely had an opinion, but didn't assert herself to the point of fighting. For us, it was the curious and more aware and playful stage.

Now at 25.5 m, she's definitely testing us. I have to remind my DH not to laugh at her defiance. :crying:

I'm looking forward to her talking more.

J just hit 17 months, and the past few months have been the most fun of my life (and definitely the best as a parent so far!) He has an awesome sense of humor, he's learning so much every day, it's amazing.

Just this morning, as soon as I carried him out of his nursery, he spotted sunlight shining brightly on the floor coming through our bedroom window and pointed to it, then looked at me. I said "sunshine!" and he spent much of the morning going around, pointing to sunlight on the floor, and trying to say "sunnnnn shannnnnn." Seriously, melt my heart.

It amazes me what she is learning every day. She is like a sponge and soaking everything in. They did colors this week, and she pointed to all corrcmect when I asked her whicih ones blue/green/red/yellow. Developing such a personality. I am loving this age, beside the tantrums.

I can't wait for talking!! Slowly getting there.

Aaaaw! These replies are making me smile so much - thank you everyone!

Just today (8hrs after I posted this thread) E said "hello" to DH when he picked her up from nursery (daycare)! Everyone heard... but she hasn't done it since!!

@blackbird: D'aaw! E is also becoming more affectionate - from a starting point of zero so I lap up every snuggle greedily!!

@yellowbird: Oh, I LOVE that image of her face lighting up when you go somewhere new!! That sounds wonderful!

They really do become little people. At 16 months, E has soooo much personality. And she's constantly making up these little games she likes. Every day, I find myself in awe of what she's capable of doing and what she imagines. I guess I didn't expect them to have so much personality so little and to be so darn sweet. She's also become affectionate--she was never a very overly snuggly baby--and i just die a little inside every time she blatantly wants a hug or gives me a kiss on the cheek. She's becoming clever, too, which I find to be a really fun trait to watch grow. I can't wait for her to start to talk, though! Every time I ask her to say "mama", she looks at me and laughs hysterically. I'm pretty sure she's just dicking me around lol

SO MUCH.

I agree that talking is the most amazing thing. It is incredible listening to him talk about what he sees, what he thinks is important, how he is feeling, what he likes and dislikes, etc. Plus all the little toddler-ese words (aka hippAHtamah for hippopotamus)--SO CUTE.

Also watching him develop his own interests--right now he is sitting and reading a book to himself, and talking outloud to himself about the parts of the book that he likes. It is awesome!

watching her learn to talk has been the most incredible milestone. we just went through a little explosion and she was learning a new word every day. it was fun to see what she'd pick up on. I"m mostly looking forward to her language continuing to develop.
Also, she recently started child care and I'm enjoying seeing her interacting more/ playing alongside other kids in ways she didn't before.

Oh, and imaginative play! She started a while ago by hugging dolls and driving cars, but I"m excited for this. Getting her a kitchen for Christmas!

The talking is amazing! Communication is sooooo different now compared to last year. She also pretend plays with things and it is super adorable and fun. She gets so excited about going new places or special things for her. I love seeing her face light up!

Miss A just LOVES to help with chores - putting away the clean washing, putting stuff in the dishwasher, pressing any button that goes beep! We also love taking walks and I really enjoy watching her investigate and discover the outdoors :-)

Alexis can also give hugs and kisses now which is pretty damn cool!

Talking and understanding concepts and starting to use very simple logic. They really start to become little people!

One of my absolute favorite memories of my son when he was about 17 months was one day when he was outside blowing bubbles with my MIL. He tried to catch them, but they kept popping, of course, and then had the idea of getting a bucket to try to catch them. He kept "catching" them and then looking in the bucket for them! It was so cute. He knew they should have been in there, but didn't understand why they were gone.

Im loving this stage of E's life. She's so much fun and learns new things every day! Watching her as she learned to walk was amazing and I can't wait until she gets confident and strong enough to run around the park!

So tell me - what else is fantastic this year (1-2)? What did you love? What is challenging? So far I have-

Looking forward to:
Running
Playing in puddles!
Her seeing snow for the first time!
First words
Teaching her some numbers and letters
Buying her first shoes
Buying her a duvet!
Christmas - she will be 17 months!
Cute Autumn/winter clothes

Not looking forward to:
Molars/canines coming through
Real tantrums!

Also, any tips or resources or fave toys for this year will be much appreciated. Thank you!
