I have heard really great things about the Orbit car seats but the toddler seat sounds pretty heavy. I think this review (or the comments) mentions that it would be hard to keep moving the seat in and out of the base: http://carseatblog.com/17163/orbit-toddler-car-seat-g2-review-you-spin-me-right-round-toddler/

I just bought the nanny her own convertible seat that can be easily moved. I have a Britax in my car and hubs rarely drives with the baby. If he needs a seat, we will borrow the nanny's on the weekend. My SIL recommended this one and it is what my mom's uses in her car for her various 6 grandkids. It easily switches back and forth from rear to forward facing. It was very affordable and I have switched my mom's before and it was very easy and quick:

I guess it would depend on the ease of it. I personally think two car seats would be easier, just because I wouldn't want to have to hassle with transferring it back and forth, even if it does have a base. I guess the cost would be a factor too.

The nice thing about the Orbit system is that it has a base just like an infant seat--but it is still a large car seat and probably still a bit cumbersome to move.

does it come with a base? Most convertible seats dont. but if it does, awesome. we have two Britax seats. We rotate one between our two cars, and one for the nanny. I think it totally depends on how cumbersome the seat is to get into and out of the base (or to isntall if you are just transferring it.) I wouldnt want to do it daily, or even multiple times per week, but thats only my expereince. Hopefully someone here has that system for you!

It's about time to move my daughter (9 1/2 mo) to a convertible car seat. We are looking at the Orbit g2 system because we are hoping to avoid having to purchase more than one convertible car seat (at least for now). It seems like even though the Orbit is more expensive, it has great features (that will help this 5'1" mom load her kid into a big SUV) and with the purchase of one other base, we would spend less than we would if we had to purchase two comprable seats without the rotating feature.

For the next year or so, my daughter will be cared for at home by a nanny, so most of the time when she is in a car, it is with our nanny. My daughter rides in my car on weekends and evenings. At some point when she goes to school, my daughter might have to switch between my car, the nanny's car, and my husband's car, but for now that is fairly rare. I think at most we would need to switch the seat from two bases a couple of times per week, and each Fri evening and Mon morning, which is what we currently do with the infant seat (graco snugride 30) and two bases.

Is it realistic to continue the one seat, two base strategy for a bigger, more cumbersome toddler seat? or should we just buy two seats?
Is anyone out there using the g2 toddler seat with the base? pros/cons of this system? do you love it or hate it?

Any and all advice on this topic would be appreciated.
