We had Toms (tiny toms they call them) in size 4 I think for my babe. He was walking and didn't have problems. I think they were even his first shoes! They had hard rubber soles. They didn't slip off or anything but sometimes it was hard to put them on him. Who am I kidding? ALL shoes are hard to put on babies!

Also wanted to add that I am VERY Happy with a pair of See Kai Run shoes that I got off myhabit.com. They are a bit wider than most shoes seem to be and are good for higher arches. They are the perfect balance of soft sole but still sturdy.

@Mrs. Stroller: Sorry to be the bearer of bad news! I've had much better luck with the Umi brand. They lack the hipster vibe, but I think they're plenty cute in their own way, they seem to be comfortable, and putting them on a squirming toddler is easy. :)

@honeybear: Darn. I've been waiting 'til the fall to buy a pair for Maddox. Maybe I'll have to wait until he's older. Darn, darn, darn.

I bought a pair of Toms for our toddler, who was already walking well at that time, and tossed them after about a week. They just aren't a good design for toddler feet--they slip off of the heel AND are harder to get on than they should be. We had ours fitted by a saleslady who knew what she was doing (and, in retrospect, did subtly imply that Toms are not great shoes!), so it wasn't a situation where I bought the wrong size.

we have two pairs of toms (one was a gift and one was a hand me down), but both slip off her feet way too easily and she trips over them a lot too! they are not our shoe of choice when going out and about bc they always fall off... even when we're just trying to take her out of the carseat. they are very cuuute, but i don't think they're too practical.

LOVE robeez!

We have some robeez as well. I think we are just a few weeks away from walking so I will wait to order them for when she is really walking everywhere. Plus, it will be closer to fall so she will need warm shoes (although not that warm since we live in Texas).

There is a little girl in daycare that has Toms and they are super cute on her.

I haven't specifically looked at the sole of them but I would advise waiting until your LO starts walking to order them. If you have an early walking you could need a size 3/4 but a late walker with a bigger foot could need up to a size 5/6!

We just used a pair of robeez while she was learning to walk around in daycare and then got her a pair of stride rites.

I want to buy my daughter some cute Toms as a gift to her for when she starts walking but I am worried about their soles. Does anyone have a pair of Toms in toddler size? If so, are they hard sole or soft sole? Would they be too hard for a beginner walker when we go out somewhere? Thanks!
