They do a good job at stretching, I would say if the 9.5 slides off you have a very good chance at pulling off an 8.5 (: If they feel a little tight when you first buy them, they will stretch so you'll be fine. I have one pair right now that only fit when I wear them with socks and they are a 9.5. If I don't wear socks they slide too much. </p> <p>I want to get a pair of the crochet TOMS, and I will wear them without socks. Should I go down to an 8.5? </p>
