He was terribly upset at first every time I tried to feed him. Nursing was rough for the first few weeks, so I'm not sure when it got better, but she was less fussy within a week maybe? Definitely do the stretching exercises so it doesn't re-attach. We bottle fed and worked with him. The second time, he nursed in the office right after. The ENT said its like they're using your nipple as a straw and only latching onto the end of it. We are having weight gain issues and I'm using a sheild because of a poor latch. @Portboston: my guy is 10 weeks old and not draining the breast, I have to pump after every feed and then give him that milk too! </p> <p>@Alba4: I'm hoping this fixes it, but we will see! I think his issue is more complex than just a tongue tie. Why can't nursing be easy?!? Unfortunately, nursing never improved (he had a small mouth too). I was a ton of pain and he wasn't draining my breasts. The tie was missed by 2 pediatricians and 3 Lactation consultants. Finally his chiropractor caught it and referred us to an ENT. Google dr Ghaheri. His website has tons of info on how to look for one. </p> <p>@MamaBehr: yes that's what they told us too. It also depends on the age. My LO had his clipped around 5 weeks. If they are older, supposedly it takes longer to see a difference.</p> <p>Eta- there are some stretches and exercises you can do to help them work their tongue out. Our LC, Melissa Cole has a YouTube video were she demonstrates what she does. His biggest issue wasn't latching, it was the sucking and getting a full feed. </p> <p>@Portboston: that's understandable. The ENT made it seem like they almost need to relearn how to use their tongue. Our lactation consultant said she is happy with getting one good feed the first day where I wasn't in pain and then the next day 2, the next 3, and on and on.
