Lo had lots of constipation issues when she was little, but she's on formula. We gave her watered down prune and pear juice, which didn't help. But pedialyte did. And we'd do the bicycle thing on her legs.

@LivsMama: I still crack up 9 months later at them. I took LO out at around 8 days old, and we were in Homegoods- LO let out the loudest 'toot' and there was an elderly woman walking by and all she could say was "oh my!' I still wonder if the lady thought it was me since it is hard to believe that noise could come from someone so small

The weird part is it was typical poop, mustardy and loose not hard like a constipated person would be. I will keep in mind the 72 hour or 1 week rule. Ive been wondering if the iron in the formula was stopping her up?

Liv was just like your LO. Only a little formula and mostly BM until we went EBF at 6 weeks or so. Her pedi said its not too concerning. He said when supplementing, they can go up to 72 hours, but when EBF they can go up to a week or more without a BM. Breast Milk is so wholly digested that often there is nothing left to excrete.

Seeing how the thermometer trick worked, that does sound like she was constipated. If she is grunting and straining, Id call the pedi back, but if she doesnt seem agitated over it give it a day or so. Liv was almost always regular, but she'd go an occasional day or 2 straight without pooping

@aunt pol: you insert the thermometer like taking a rectal temp and gently move it around a lil bit and then Remove and some babies will release their bowels! Mine sure did yesterday and looked like a happy girl!!

72 hours is the rule of thumb then? Excellent. I tried googling it and saw some people said 10 days!

I have a similar problem here with Evelyn, she hasn't pooped now since Tuesday morning. I was freakjng out so brought her to doctor, who sent us to hosp baby clinic , they said they don't get concerned until 72 hours has passed without poo. I'm trying to increase her ratio of bf:formula, but still spooked... What's the thermometer trick?

DD is 95% BF with a max of 3oz of formula day. However she seems to not be making daily poops. Yesterday she was straining/grunting so much I did the themometer trick and she filled 2 diapers worth. Is this normal? After that yesterday she hasnt gone again. She is making tons of wet diapers and farts plenty all day long!!
