DS is 4 1/2, and he still goes in the stroller! I have actually been thinking of getting a double stroller also. DD is getting big enough to sit in a stroller, and the walks I take are too far for DS, so he needs to be in one too. I would probably buy used though, and nothing fancy since it won't last TOO long.

Yes, it's pretty smooth!! I love it. If u don't mind a review...

Let me just say first... at first I didn't like side-by-sides for siblings because I heard they are tough to push with uneven sides, but the Mountain Buggy Duet is so narrow it pushes really well despite my kids' weight difference (my 1 yo is 20 lbs and my 4 yo is 37 lbs!)

It's the most narrow double side-by-side at 25". That's about one inch wider than my Bob single and the same width (!) as a Mountain Buggy Urban Jungle (another single jogger). I think most other doubles are at least 29" across and I didn't want something so wide (like the Bob double or City Mini double).

This means I have no trouble whatsoever in going through single doors by myself! I love it. I also love that it is very sturdy, has a good-sized basket, a pretty easy fold, and isn't too heavy that I curse too much if I have to put it in my trunk. Compared to its larger counter part, the Duo (@40+ lbs), the Duet is 34 lbs (I think), which isn't bad for a standard double. The front wheels can lock and I have done some light jogging with it too. The market for side-by-side compact joggers is very small... So this is a plus for me since I sometimes like to get some workouts in without depending on others to watch the kids.

And yes, it does have a pretty smooth ride... Not as much as my Bob, but good enough. We stroll over city curbs, in parks, and uneven terrain sometimes with not much of a problem.

Hehe so yeah, i love the MB Duet... The fact that it's so narrow for a double and that I can jog lightly with it are my fave features. The sunshades are decent too... Love the optional belly bar as well and that each seat reclines near flat. I know it takes infant car seats, just not sure which ones since we just got it when DD turned 1 yo.

Oh another plus is since my eldest DD is starting school soon again, I can still use it as a single by taking one seat out and using a "Joey" attachment (more shopping basket space). But you know, I actually might even just leave the 2nd seat there and put my diaper bag or more groceries in it. Again, because it's so narrow, it doesn't feel awkward using it with one baby on one side.

ETA: there were also a lot of other strollers I wanted to get instead... most were inline, like Phil & Teds, City Select and the B Ready... But when we shopped in person, my eldest DD didn't feel comfortable in the seats. She's tall for her age. So that's where going in person is really important if u decide to get a double! Good luck!

@NYCaliMama: Thank you so much! So helpful. We do a ton of walking...I walk to the grocery store, to the park, in stores we use the stroller so I'd really get my use out of it. DS still takes naps in the bob too.

I think I tried the mountain buggy in stores while pregnant and liked it. Is it pretty smooth? Can you jog with it? How old does baby have to be to sit in there? Sorry for all the questions, I'm just really interested now!

my girls are 3 years and 5 months apart. We did get by with single strollers and boogie boards at first, but then winter in NYC hit and I wanted both kids to be warm in strollers for long walks. We walk a LOT. My eldest even naps in strollers sometimes too.

So I justified it because we walk so much and I wanted to protect my older DD's naptime, meanwhile allowing me to run errands during their naps.

I don't think 3 yo is too old for a stroller but it depends on your family's needs. How much do you walk with them? I know a lot of city families who just train the older one to scoot everywhere... Have you also seen the Freerider? I think it's by Mountain Buggy; it's a scooter and can connect to the back of strollers like a boogie board. I believe it's compatible with the Bob now.

If you want double stroller recs, let me know. I used an Uppa Baby Vista for a while and now have a Mountain Buggy Duet that I LOVE! It was $600 though since I couldn't find it on CL since it's pretty new. I really love it though!

I have a Britax B-ready which I am using as a double, but it can also be used as a single. It is a great stroller, which can grow (or shrink!) with you.

@chopsuey119: I forgot that I've seen the front of the stroller used!
Hmm...
@Mrs.B: Exactly, DS is a runner and although he is getting better at listening, I feel better knowing he's secure in the jogging stroller. Unless we're in an area where he can ride his bike safely and I can still keep DD in her carrier.

DS will be 4 in November and I still put him in our sit n stand. He actually sits in the spot ment for younger kids and my 2 year old daycare girl sits in the sit n stand part. It works out great for quick trips to the craft store or taking walks. DS can't handle walking free range he is still a runner lol

3 year old legs get tired too! But I would keep your infant in the carrier and son in the single Bob. Don't think it's worth it to invest in a double unless you're thinking of having a 3rd?
Or, if you're okay just using the double for a year or so..?

I think the Bob might be too small for a 4-5 year old.

My in laws have a single and they used to seat their (at the time) 1 year old in the Bob, and their 5 year old would sit perched on the edge of the stroller.

So my son turned 3 this past spring and my daughter is now 9 weeks old and for my walks, I've had DD in the beco carrier and I push DS in the bob stroller. We LOVE the bob! It's the only stroller we use but it'd be nice to have a double. Is 3 too old to be in a stroller?
It's just super convenient when I'm alone to not have to chase after him! Should I find one on Craigslist or just keep DD in the carrier while DS is in the single bob? Stop using the running stroller all together? If he was any younger than 3, I could justify buying a new double...

What are your thoughts/ideas?
