It's a shame that the college degree was a sticking point for her because it sounds like this guy isn't lazy at all. Paying for 3 years of his sister's college education is pretty amazing. I think it's too late for them if he feels judged by her. I hope that you can cheer her up and help her move on!

I think everyone comes from a different background, and she was way too judgemental on that one attribute. It wasn't like he is a bum and is living off of her income, etc. He made a living on his own and even opened up his business. If his business is thriving, that's awesome. Owning your own business and keeping it going is hard work!! I don't blame him for not giving her a second chance.

@autumnlove: Oh, interesting. If he's hardworking and is good with money and whatnot, then that's different. The boyfriend I was with was just lazy. For us, it wasn't about the degree...It was about ambition and motivation.

That sucks. But I'm sure she really hurt his feelings, and he deserves someone who wants him for who he is. Hopefully she learned her lesson for next time!

@purrpletulips: Yeah, he is a really hard worker and is smart with his money. He also paid for 3 years of his little sister's college tuition and expenses when his parents ran into financial difficulty! He told us that her graduation day was the proudest day of his life! So he definitely isn't anti-education...it just wasn't for him!

My husband is working on his AA but wasn't enrolled when I met him or when we got married. It is hard having different beliefs but if he was a hard working guy then his degree shouldn't matter

I think she should move on. However, I think her view is fairly narrow. He sounds like he made a solid living for himself without finishing college and would be a strong role model for kids because he made something of himself without completing college whereas there are many college graduates who are unemployed because they are "over-educated" or got degrees in areas that don't have a lot of jobs available.

Yeah I think she should just move on. I would have a hard time marrying someone who didn't complete college either (mainly because I want our children to go to college and that battle is easier fought if both parents went). But I also understand why this guy would never want to be with someone who judged him for that decision. So I think they just aren't a good match.

She should move on. I broke up with a guy once because our ambitions were very different. Similarly with your friend, I was serious about school and this guy was not and while he was fun, loving, and a great person, ultimately our goals were different and our relationship would have fizzled out. Your friend probably really misses him and likes him, but the guy was totally judged.

One of my closest friends recently broke up with her boyfriend of about 6 months. She said things were getting serious(talking about getting married) but she could not get over the fact that he never completed college. I think he went for a year and decided it was not for him. She has her Masters in Social Work and wants to pursue a PhD and he is an electrician who now owns his own company. They seemed to be very compatible with their interests of reading, cooking, traveling, etc!

She wants to get back together with him but he basically told her to Eff off. My friend's mom thinks she was too judgemental with this guy and should just move on...

What do you guys think? I think I agree with her Mom...
