I'm sure you are fine. I think that you need to have a lot a lot to have negative effects. It's always best to ask your practitioner, but I wouldn't be worried.

@paigeface: Hi! It is animal derived vitamin A that you need to limit, not beta carotene, as you suspected. One suggestion would be to consider using New Chapter Perfect Prenatal, the vitamin A used in that vitamin is only from beta carotene (if you don't want to worry about it). (That's the reason I use them.)

My prenatal has 4000 IU of (retinol) and the foods I eat have Beta-carotene which you cannot overdose on (or so it says from what I've been reading!)

Generally prenatal have lower levels of vitamin A than other vitamins. It's probably fine but there's no harm in asking at your next appointment.

@raspberries: ditto this. A prenatal is more of an insurance policy, but it would be really difficult to reach the levels that are detrimental to your health.

I would definitely check with your ob/midwife for guidance, but I'd say regular healthy eating and a once-a-day prenatal shouldn't be providing you with so much Vitamin A that it would be detrimental to your baby. I think they're warning you against taking a prenatal as well as additional concentrated vitamins.

I have eaten really healthy during the course of my pregnancy and include kale salads, chicken, brown rice, smoothies from time to time, nuts and nut butters, veggie soups, oatmeal, fruits, veggies and etc.

I read somewhere today that getting too much of a certain vitamin such as vitamin A is bad for you and baby and can cause birth defects. I also take a once a day gummy (Olly Prenatal Vitamin from Target) but never more than once a day. Is my combination of healthy eating and prenatal once a day ok or am I getting too much? :bummed:
